Evening all, my grips are getting worn out and I want to replace them. Is it possible to only replace the grips or does it have to be a whole heated grip unit and motorcycle grip replacement? My heated grips work fine, just wearing out. Have tried the grip puppy equivalent fromn NN but they are too thick for me. Motorbins said they dont get many decent second hand uints in and that the whole kaboodle (heated and grip) is the only way to do it. True? Quite pricy. I know on the older 1150 etc you could slice the old one off carefully and put new one over heated element. Is this the case with the hexhead?

Try 2" shrink wrap. It is tight to get on, but nearly indestructible, and not slippery like you would think. Works great on worn grips without making them bigger.

cool, the search begins for thick shrink wrap. Or cricket bat handle rubber. Cheers. But can they be replaced?

Grip puppies don't really hold water - it just runs straight through them. However, they do make a noticeable difference to the circumference increasing the reach you need to the levers - not for those with small hands!

As mentioned in OP. I have grip puppies. I don't like the increased circumference. So the current grips can be cut off?

Cut off the rubber grip. Use plyers to pull the rubber away and with a sharp knife cut them off - do not cut down to the plastic frame that holds the wire. Buy two sets of grips and install the thinner throttle grips. Done

I was very happy with Oxford hot grips on previous bikes. To be fair the controller was crap (easily fixed) but grips went on and on. Just splice the BMW wiring connectors to grip wires and it's good to go.

Hornig will deliver a pair that will fit for £25. Ill try the cutting off method and then refit these. If it fails or I fck it up, I'll bite the bullet! Want the original electrics and grips etc. Puppies dont do it for me. Heat shrink might work but prob be another faff and I dont have a heat shrink gun that'll work in the UK windy outdoor conditions......Ill write it up when I get round to it. Anyone want a pair of used 3 times grip buddies....http://www.nippynormans.com/product...atihonda-kawasaki-suzuki-and-yamaha-gpb-ab-ss £20 posted

Totally doable, though a PITA and risky if you cut the heating coil.

The advantage is that you get to choose the grip style you want.

The one potential advantage I can see of the grip puppies over the Nippy Norman's option is heat transfer. The grip puppies are a foam construction so heat will permeate through them with relative ease. The NN option seems to be a rubber sleeve and I wonder whether that reduces the amount of heat that gets through to your hands.:nenau

I would have thought the opposite.
Closed cell foams are good insulators (look at camping roll mats) so foam grips might limit heat transfer...

I've used both and the Grip Puppies work marginally better. I run them on my 2015 GS. I also ran them on my 2005 GS.
