New Handlebar Grips 2010 GS

The 3mm sorbothane sheet under my heat shrink grip covers slows the grip heater warm up time but they get hot eventually. Foam is likely to insulate a lot better.
I suspect my grips are getting warm with only 50% of the heater elements. They've always been lack lustre compared to Oxford Hot Grips.

Hi, why the need for two sets of grips? Excuse my ignorance but they're the same diametre? Wont 1 set work? Or is there a specific left and right thing I don't get?

Cut off the rubber grip. Use plyers to pull the rubber away and with a sharp knife cut them off - do not cut down to the plastic frame that holds the wire. Buy two sets of grips and install the thinner throttle grips. Done

Throttle and clutch side are different.
When the surface starts to look worn fit some cricket bat rubber sleeves.

Well bought the 50mm heat shrink and slid it on today (ooo er)..its mahoosively loose. I know it said it shrinks by 50% but my heat gun wasn't up to the task in the cold and wind, so will have to have another go tomorrow. But from the looks of things, the heat shrink I got is way too big..Jim, you did say 2 inch, as in 50mm.

Ok, tried the shrink wrap route but found them too slippy. So its new grips coming. What diametre grips am I looking for - most seem to mention a 22mm size. Searching Google, all I can find is a reference to risers that fit the 28mm bars. But I seem to think the thickness where these are placed is an increased diametre to that at the grips? Are grips standard thickness (cant be, surely?) So definitive diametre needed or an e bay linky? Thanks
PS.. I could measure it and guestimate the inner dimension, but knowledge on a paid forum is invaluable.....Thanks.

So you got them to shrink tight OK? Try a light brushing of 100 grit sandpaper, though I never found them slippery.

Jim
