Hi,
I have a HG cruse GTX which is excellent, good vents for the summer and warm enough for the winter. The jacket is getting on now and I would like it replaced. The HG sites don't advertise the Cruse any more and what they have is limited in sizes (Tuareg nice jacket but only in huge an 'kin huge, Tourist also nice but only in 50-58). I am getting the impression that they are just trying to get rid of old stock.

I am a HG fan, i think they sell good kit, does any one know if its worth a trip out to the local HG shop to see what they have or will they be getting a new range in soon?

cheers

Think they have just gone bust, re-structured etc. All change. Nothing from the past counts for anything now.

Let me know which one is local and I'll pop in for you, save you going out.

The Cruise was HG's top of the range Goretex suit. The current top of the range is the Taureg, Master Evo, and PS-RS Goretex Pro-shell. However, unlike the Cruise, the Goretex liner in the Taureg and Master Evo aren't bonded to the outer Cordura layer. The PS-RS bonded Goretex (Pro-shell?)and is part Cordura/leather. I looked at the PS-RS but I didn't like the lack of pockets.

All these suits retail at just under £1100 but HG are doing a 30% discount at the moment on all HG branded kit so all these suits come aout at just under £770.

I bought the Master Evo and am very happy with it.

Hein Gericke Master V GORE-TEX® Pro Shell Jacket, black

I've had one of these for the last few winters. Bloody warm and totally dry. It's a Pro shell so the gore tex is bonded to the outer. And there's 30% off at the moment so it's about 450 quid for a jacket that was once selling for 750 smackers a while ago. Although I got mine for 550. I love this jacket, I spend most of the winter riding with this over a t-shirt and I'm toasty. This is a winter only jacket as there are no vents and you'd cook come spring/summer.

HG kit has been my prefered kit for at least 10 years and I've always been happy with their products.:rob

What do you wanna know about it?

I've been considering the Torino suit of late. I'm loathe to buy on-line without being able to try it on and have a close look.

I take your point about trying it on first. Always wise. But I chose this because its quite a short jacket so it doesn't scrunch up when I sit down. I've been commuting in it since August through all weathers and I've not been cold or wet (but in the colder rides I wore a micro fleece type thing underneath)

The bonded goretex is a bonus.

Can thoroughly recommend it.

Well I'd really like to cop a feel of the material. Now my only ride is a K1, I need a suit that's not too stiff, stretches a little and doesn't bunch too much (especially behind my knees).

I was interested because of the short jacket that you mention. The riding position on a K1 is leant forward, long jackets just get in the way and create folds that allow water to pool in. In addition, I find that short boots are best on this bike, that means that unless the cuffs of the legs can be drawn tight, given the angle of my legs, a generous length or a decent seal is important.

My worries are that the bonded Goretex will be like the BMW Streetguard, too stiff for comfort.

Try Revit. I did last year after years of spending small fortunes on BMW etc gear. I've not been disappointed.

I had Revit........just got a Klim and it is far superior in every respect, albeit more expensive.

I tried the bm kit and agree...quite stiff
But actually I'm really pleased with the Torino. It is supple enough for my likes. Much more so than the SG. The trousers have zips at the bottom...not sure if that's what you mean, but I em wear ten with sidi adventure boots with no complains. Comfy and warm, and I usually wear my work trousers underneath too without any discomfort.

Here's what I wrote in July:

So I've just spent some of my hard earned cash getting an outfit ready for commuting to work for the year oct - oct

Thought I'd share what I thought was a reasonably good deal with any of you who were looking for good prices.

Basically, got my Sidi Adventure boots from Germany (FC-Moto.de) for £242
Got my Shoei Neotec from Andorra (automotoracing.com) for £380 (both including delivery)
Got a great deal from HG for my goretex suit. Torino jacket in brown for £330 (minus £100 for their 'spend over 300 and get 100 off'), and Tourist GTX jeans for £280. Instead of utilising their 'spend 160 and get 40 off' offer, i just added a windstopper neck thingy to the basket, taking total spend to £300, thus getting £100 off! Add in the discount for joining HG points club (1000, this equals £10), and the points from from the jacket purchase (another 6ish quid) total was £188.

Oh, jacket and jeans needed to be in two transactions, otherwise I would have only got £100 off total!

And i've another fiver to spend at some point courtesy of the points racked up for buying the jeans!

All in all I'm well chuffed.

Thought I'd post this just in case anyone else was looking for some good prices!

Just been down to the local HG outlet, bought a new HG Tuareg jacket for £280.

They are selling stuff for less that quoted on the internet, but stock levels are low.

That's cuz they've gone bust and most shops are selling cheap (and the rest are shut down). The one in Bristol has an RIP sign painted outside the shop. Breaks my heart as they were always great retailers with great sales people.:tears

Ooops, just rereading this and realised I've got my ranges mixed up: The Cruise didn't have a bonded liner (Pro-shell), it had a non bonded Goretex liner, and it was HG's the top of the range of type of suit. I should have realised this, my previous jacket is a Cruise and gave great service for nearly 7 years (and still does as my 'back-up' jacket). I think it was the earlier 'Master' ranges that were pro-shell.

I believe they are selling off the last of HG's current range before the new range comes in. This stock has been collected in from all the the shops that are not going to be reopened by the new management (supplemented by new stock from Germany?). It is a shame that so many shops have been closed, but hopefully those that have been saved will continue to be great retailers with great sales people. The one at Preston certainly fits this description, with the original staff from before the previous management put the business into administration.
