We have always stuck to TKC 80's before but I am intrested to know if any-one out there has actually done any serious mileage on the New Metzeler Karoo T. They are supposed to to be much better than the old karoo in terms of mileage?

We have always been happy with TKC's but you can't always choose your brand in remote locations!

Thanks

It is indeed but, has any-one worn them out yet? How did they handle and what sort of mileage did they get?

Give 'em a go (you say they are better than the old Karoo's) and report back, perhaps? Trail blazing, it's called.

The Karoo has an extra longitudinal cut in the blocks. I think that this explains their slightly faster wear than the TKC. They also have angled shoulder blocks that possibly help to reduce cupping.

They do wear quicker than TKC's but the price difference probably makes this even in the price-per-mile comparison.

That should answer the first question.

Handling? Pretty much the same as TKC's.

As for mileage, well that depends on their use and the bike and the rider and the load..........

The consensus here and over on AdvRider is that they wear quicker than TKC's. From that you should be able to work-out that people who have used both, find that they don't last as long.

I fitted some Karoo T2’s on my GSA for a while last year. They were on the bike for about a 900 miles – some off road, but mostly on tarmac.

Off road they performed as good as TKC’s. However, they were a far superior road tyre IMHO, with more cornering grip and stability when wet or dry. Much better at high speed, with less tendency to weave at 100mph+. Also less vibration and road noise too.:clap

Can’t comment on tyre life, as I changed back to Battlewings for the winter. But they looked good as new after 900miles.:thumb

See!

This is what I meant when I said it depends.

I'm not the only person on this forum to have used at least one set of Karoo(T)'s.

In my opinion they are about the same as TKC's for grip and stability, maybe a little less grippy but that may be due the rear not being a dual compound like Conti's rear TKC.

In my opinion they are more prone to altered handling on-road due to load than TKC's. With Karoo(T) my bike understeers when loaded unless I alter the suspension settings. It doesn't do that on TKC's.

As I have run out of tread on the rear Karoo(T) currently fitted and have a pair of TKC's sitting here, I'm about to revert to TKC's but will keep the front Karoo(T) and will happily swap back when I have bought another rear Karoo(T).

So, all-in-all, my advice remains the same: Buy them and try them. It's the only way that you will really know what to think of them.

Ive had 2 sets on my GS and just shod the HP2 with a new set. I think they are as good as TKC`s on the road and "i believe" better in the dirt.
Get about 6000 to a front and 5000 to a rear.
Just got them on the HP2 for £145 fitted.

Thanks! Just what I was hoping to here! Will try some and report back.
