Had the Pirelli/Metz rep in today he says There is a new EXP out denoted with the letter M . Metzeler said the problems with the (origanal) EXP about mileage issues wasn't a problem but they've tweeked it and put an M on and this lasts longer. I have asked for a set to see :)

Doesn't harm their profits if tyres last a shorter time

It does if their core marketplace wants a high mileage tyre and shun the new one. If they don't sell.. where's the profit?

local tyre specialist to me doesn't stock the EXP.. 'they don't sell' he said.. 'so i only get them on request.. but I've had no requests.'

Which is probably why they've taken a short term profit, and are now "updating" the tyre with new technology, or just going back to the one people kept on buying.

After reading a few tyre/wheel threads on this forum, I'm not sure that mileage is an issue to many and i think the Metz man knows it.

Except that for a good many of us, it is....and now he has found out that mileage is an issue, it is HIS wallet that is hurting !

Going by what i have seen i like the old Tourance but wont be trying the EXP due to the mileage issue. Fortunately i still have an new "old" Tourance rear in the shed to fit when the time comes so will be able to see how the uprated ones do when others try them.

No problem getting hold of Original Tourances... they never went out of production. Local tyre place to me has them.. and they're always on ebay (for instance) And have never been removed from the Metzeler website.

Can't say I've ever seen an EXP for sale.

Even with the new tweeked version coming up... I can't see the original going out of production until Metzeler are sure they're onto a winner.

is that because he's trying to sell them by any chance.:augie

im sticking with the old ones, because mileage is an issue for me.

new old tyres

Dont foorget tyres can go off like fuel if kept on a shelf an not used ,then your rubbers w*nk what ever the brand!!!!:nenau

You can stop them going off by storing them in a bin bag....in a dark place, like the attic. It is UV that starts the break down process, keeping them in the dark will reduce the going off, long enough for home storage anyway. They should be fine in the dark for a year at least.....my tyres only last a few months a set when I have plenty of work coming in.

Wish I had bought a couple of sets from Busters when they had them on special....I would have stored them in bin bags in the attic.:aidan

Old Tourance's.

Round, black rubbery things that grip well enough to do Hereford to Bolton in 2hrs 22mins in heavy rain without issues.

14300 miles from a front, 12600 from a rear.

Can't fault 'em.:thumb2

tourances

:thumb2Clarence your avin some extra good milage from your rubber,i have michelin anakee2s and dont think ill get anywhere near that!!
Are they as good at everything as people say even down to the last ,as you should know getting that milage :augie

tourances

Yep they are pretty good just coming up for 10k on the rear and just starting to square off now reckon it's got another 2k at a push in it, the front loads more. Not as grippy as trail attacks but a good allround tyre.

Yep, I would need some convincing to change to another tyre.

Crap EXP

First front EXP was exchanged early due to outer sections detaching from main carcuss:eek:. Rep gave me a 30% refund and new one:D! Just had the same on the new one so gone back to old tourance!!:(

Got limited use from rear new tourance EXP before a nail did it in!!:nenau Gone back to old tourance for the rear as well!!:thumb2

Think Mr metzeler got the new EXPs a little wrong!!:rob

I have problems with UV degredation especially with Metzler's. My 1 year old front EXP is starting to crack round the sidewall already.
Might try the Avon Distanzia next time round.
