DOES ANY BODY NO THE TRUTH!!!!!!!

I certainly don't know the truth BUT ... if you look at the BMW america site you'll see that they have pictures of what they call the 2004 model and it looks pretty much the same (different cylinder heads)

I'm sure that they could just introduce a new model anyway though ..

European 2003 models = USA 2004 Models..
Strange but true

Ordered my Adventure on Wednesday (Williams Manchester) after another test ride, I tried an "normal" GS last year and convinced myself that this was the bike for me. Part ex`d my beloved CBR600 which I loved dearly but wasn`t using enough. I am now having sleepless nights (christ is that the time!) waiting for it to be picked up on September 3rd. Anyway this forum is tons better than Sky TV and gives me something to do at work apart from mastering the art of insincerity with management!:tigger :tigger

It provides some newspaper articles on the rumoured 2004 model. If it's planned to hit the market next year, rest assured it will be 'launched' at European bike shows before then. If the articles are to be believed there will be a lot of changes, producing a lighter, higher-performing machine (if that's what you want). Major changes always mean a step into the unknown and with the best testing programme in the world bugs often don't become apparent till a bike hits the streets. It isn't always such a bad thing to stick with a tried and tested, highly regarded machine until a new model earns it's own reputation - good or bad.

New GS

My local dealer told me there will definitely be a new GS, around March next year. I was told it will be a 1200, with more power and significantly lighter (30kg lighter in fact, which seems hard to believe).

new model

ive just picked up my GSER only last thursday and i asked the same question at Pidcocks, they said there was something on the line but would not elaberate on it,all they would tell me is that they are bringing out a supper moto,no more info yet but ill keep my lugs open for you
Regards Monster

new 2004 gs

dealer friend here telling me the new bike will be on the market not before march 2004 , maybe very very slim chance of officila presenation at milan september show...but he doesnt think so.

basically i think that there is a big backlog with present gs models and i think thats y they are delaying a bit...

rumors are=
non spoke wheels
larger exhaust
smaller hexagonal shaped heads
frame???
lighter bike aprox 30 kg less

In the seventies BMW used to use shows to release new models.

Of late, their Modus Operandi is to release a new model in between bike shows, allowing saturated coverage by the magazines, which relates to a fair amount of free advertising and attention by potential buyers.

The Northern Hemisphere Spring time, would be the best bet for timing, to either release details of a new model, or, to just release it.

As for the 30Kg weight reduction, an obvious one would be a digital ABS system, allowing possibly 2Kg straight away.

Things like that, are what is now driving the car world to lighter and more fuel efficiency, along with re-cycling of more of the components which usually means more plastics, which in turn means less rust.

In short to achieve the possible 30Kg weight, they need to lighten every component by 12.5% as this is, in some cases, not possible, then some things have to achieve a greater weight reduction whilst others only nominally or not at all.

I myself see no problem in reducing the current 1150 machine using some lateral thinking, which I think the engineers who have been producing the latest crop of BMW's are doing.

As the Chinese are once reported to have said, "We live in interesting times".

Interesting article Zippy, thanks for the link. As one who's intending to buy new, but not until next year, I'll be keeping a close eye on developments here. Never keen on being a guinea pig when it comes to new models, but the slightly shorter 'beak' styling and probably weight reduction looks very promising. Be interesting to see if it'll be possible to ride an 'old' 1150 just rpior to testing this new one when it comes out and see how they compare.
