I've found the new capacitive screen Nav vi is difficult to enter text to do a search. Even off the bike and just using a finger it enters the incorrect letters.eg you press M and it's fine, then you press O but it will put another M in ??. Not every time but it takes ages to get the correct name input. It also may delete the last letter when you have been nowhere near the backspace\delete key.
It's been ok & not ghosting but the inputting of a town name is very difficult.
Anyone else have the same problem with the new Capacitance Nav VI ?.
Or is it just mine?
I've tried the different keyboards --- Qwerty, large letters & ABCD but they all have the same mistyping problem.

PS The cure / how to avoid the problem is given in post #10.

As above......I replaced a dealer bought one and during the process to get the Cap screen I asked about warranty and was told it was now lifetime...not sure if it was their lifetime or mine

As regards the screen issue on post #115.....much use of the cap screen keyboard and for me it is better and more responsive than the older Nav6
The keyboard is responsive but it keeps putting the wrong letter in, or repeats the previous letter you just put in, even though the letter you are touching is no where near it.
For example, as a test I am putting "m" & then "o" repeatedly. It will be ok for a few letters but then for example it will have put "momomm" or "momoo".
Be interested to see if yours works faultlessly. I'm no where near the wrong letter when it puts it in again or sometimes deletes the correct previous letter!.
Hard to explained, but I'm using it off the bike and with my finger sat in the house. So no gloves , when I was trying to enter " Morecambe" as a destination when I had gloves on it took ages to get it right.

Have you tried recalibrating the screen?
Watch this video for how to do it.
Most Garmin sat navs can be recalibrated in this way.

Don't think you can calibrate the capitance screen one. Wouldn't go into the calibration screen when I held the top left whilst switching it on anyway.
Presume because it works in a different way calibration isn't possible nor required ??.

It looks like you'll need to contact Garmin Support, they'll probably offer to replace it under the warranty.

Not had that either with or without gloves on

Might be a dumb question - but are you certain it's a cap screen model?

Yes, I'm sure it's the cap screen. Different version number and sent direct from Garmin as exchange a couple of months ago , had to wait until they had stock of cap screen one.
You can also tell because the screen reacts even when your finger is only a couple of mm away & not actually touching it.

Think I've worked out how to use the keyboard correctly :-) .
I've been dabbing the letters and that has been causing the problems.
I've discovered that if I touch and hold a key it only adds the key symbol as you remove your finger (or glove).
This allows you to put your finger on a letter on the keyboard and then drag it (or hold it) until the desired letter is highlighted above your point of contact, then remove your finger and that letter is input.

When dabbing on the letters if it hasn't highlighted that letter it inputs the previously entered letter when you remove your finger.

Sorry if others had already realised this. I was using it like a normal keyboard and tapping letters & this caused errors.
Hope that all makes sense.

I have edited the title of the opening post, making it easier for bods to find the cure.
