I'm not sure if you guys know but there is a new design of oil pump for our airheads. These new pumps are ridiculously expensive and are around four times the cost of the originals. It appears that BMW have outsourced them and also left the quality control to the manufacturer.
The problems are down to :-
1/ The size of the new pumps, they don't match the originals.
2/ The centre section appears to have been machined off centre so if you measure the clearance between the centre rotor and the outer the dimension changes.
3/ There a depression in the outer ring that is presumably part of the new manufacturing process, unfortunately the edges on this depression are very sharp. I dread to think the amount of wear its going to cause to the oil pump housing especially as the OD is not the same as the original.
I bought one of the new outers but rather than take the risk I've used the best older outer I could find.
I know Richie Moore has had to have his own made because the new BMW outers just aren't upto the mark for his race engines but where that leaves the rest of us is anybodies guess.
