Perhaps they are some sort of wheel choc's to stop it falling off the stand cos it's got some much fuel on board. (bit of a wild guess but still no idea everyone at office said throw away and keep quiet):blast

triangle rubber bits

Lo-IQ-

The triangle rubbers get ziptied to the outside of the frame to help stabilize the sides of the tank. Kind of hard to describe, but if you take the sidepanels off and look between the tank and the outside of the frame just above the throttle bodies you'll see. The drag is that you'll have to take the tank off again to install them!

I helped install one for a friend last week, and it took us a while, but we figured thats where they go. Just run zipties through the holes in the blocks & go around the frame!

Cheers-

:blast :blast :blast :blast I looked at that as well AAARRGH!

Lucky I jammed the horn in the wrong place, got a good enough reason to take it all to bits again.

Whats even worse just looking down the front of the tank and you can see where it has to fit.....:blast :blast :blast :blast

thanks for clearing that up.

Riding near Seattle

Hi Aaron crash a-ron:

Did your friend get his tank from HPN directly?

Where do you ride in the Seattle area? I get down into Washington frequently and always looking for new rides. Lots of good dirt riding near Chilliwack/Vancouver.

Very nice install report! Thanks a lot!

I'm now waiting for mine... hope it arrives soon!

Question: do you think it's possible to paint this tank? I know that AfricaQueens tanks are paintable, but i don't know if this is the same material.

any ideas?

Thanks again!

For the record I don't know, however the tank is made from the same stuff as the plastic on the new 1200GSA. When you get your tank look underneath there's some manufacturers info they might be able to help.

I would say NO however...only as it feels wrong sort of material and having been out in the rain and rubbish weather we've had and the tank is clean as whistle. Nothing stuck to it....

Great report and pics. I can't understand why BMW don't offer a large tank version from the start unless its a marketing ploy however it would open up the HP2 to a whole new client base if they were more flexible.

Well done that man.

Nothing is ever a simple thing

Been scratching my head for a while I thought about it again. went off and bought a set of Wunderlich Engine Bars.... after fitting the BIG tank thought this would be a piece a cake.

Well not really the new oil cooler is in the way of the fitting bar... (R'S)

So the angle grinder and I are about to chop up a £150 set of bars and make a new bracket to fit it.... not sure if that's a totally good idea but what the hell here it goes.

Will do just got me some more cutting and welding to do.... but have to find a few more bits of metal first. Building up the courage cos this could go either way...

been chasing HPN down to see if there as any word on tanks and orders for a couple of other forum members, I guess there will be news in coming week now who can help me I need an arai helmit removered... now that's one you don't hear every day!

Been looking for one for ages got the neck brace but the rally organisers are now saying in 2008 all participants will need one of these things as well it looks like a balaclava, ballacavala, barliccarlaveer :blast bit like a ski mask and russian tank drivers hat in one.

Spoke with Arai who once they stopped laughing at my desription where about as much us tits on fish.

let me know the serial number mine is only 19 got stopped the other day by some bloke in London asking where to get one...

tank

yeah will do. First the tank has to be ordered and for that i will need to have them come back to me. I will pay straight away and let u know of serial number. This is going to make such a diference to my riding. Not so much locally but the opportunity to take off through a long logging track and come out some 300kms later. The next thing is the panniers.

panniers

My HPN tank should be coming through soon! Judging from what I've seen on this thread I'm not holding my breath...

I have the alluminum panniers from Hepco and Becker which work very well with the Wunderlich brackets. I'd look closely at the Jesse system if I had not already gotten the H&B setup. Not sure if they would be as good on rough roads as the H&B but they sure look good.

Translation

I'm still waiting to find someone to translate my HPN order to German. Not trying too hard as I would like to see someone actually receive one of these tanks first...;) If there is a taker for a translation I'd like to get on the list via a fax. All but one of my emails have been ignored.

:topic Beachman, can you tell me what tires you plan to use on your Sidney to London trip ? How much dirt to do expect to see? I've been through too many Karoo's to do a long trip on them. Next year is Mexico for me.. I've had the Michelin Desert suggested.

I am fluent in German if you need a hand
