There is a new mobile speed camera van in North Yorkshire that the police are using that is capable of capturing footage first forwards and then rearwards after its clocked you speeding thus effectively aimed at motorcyclists and their rear only numberplates.

The police will be publishing its location in advance on a week by week basis apparently :augie

Not that anyone on here breaks the speed limit of course :augie

Think you would have to pretty feckin stupid to speed going past a camera van. Don't care how many numbers plates you have.

All forces have to publish where they are going to be in advance. Here is the NY Police's Deployment page HERE

This weekends site info quoted below, but it's just all the usual spots they have cars around at anyway;

"North Yorkshire Police will be carrying out mobile safety camera enforcement on the following roads between Friday 1 July and Monday 4 July 2011.

A64 between Scarborough, Malton and York
A171 Whitby to the Cleveland border
A171 Scarborough to Whitby
A169 Pickering to Whitby
B1257 Helmsley to Stokesley
A 1237 York outer ring road
A64 Hopgrove, Tadcaster
Beckfield Lane, York
Tadcaster Road, York
Malton Road, York
B1228 Grimston Bar, Elvington
Huntington Road, York
Millfield Lane, York
Strensall Road, York
Stockton Lane, York

Please remember that in addition to speed, the camera can also capture mobile phone and seatbelt offences.

The mobile safety cameras will be in operation at the above sites at various times during the dates stated. Cameras will not be in use on the above routes all day, every day. The above locations were accurate when this page was first published.

Due to operating constraints at some of our sites, our mobile safety camera locations may change on occasions without prior warning."

How will I know if the road is going to be safe, no way I am gonna attempt any of these lethal roads without the safety van there.

A64/Tadcaster junction as usual, both old and new Vans/cameras today.

Not interested in those peeps who cant drive:eek: just the speeders:blagblah

Although only saw 2x vehicles that had been pulled and they seemed to be the Pickey look-a-like flat bed trucks:nenau:thumb2.

Nice weather for it though:thumb

Funny, isn't it? We've just had the best year ever for road safety stats (2010) - with camera partnerships closing all over the UK. And TRL has just published a report showing how massively significant passive and active safety engineering has been in preventing deaths.

But no, it's all about sticking to the magic number on the pole, isn't it? Because sticking to the magic number makes you safe.

Saw them there at 10.30 (still there at 6pm)
Several cars, as soon as they spotted the van, braked to drive at 50mph!
I agree - stop the drivers who cause havoc on the road by having no idea what they're doing!
