New product GS(A) seat plate/rack combo

Hi all, here is the latest thing I have come up with - it`s a seat plate/rack to suit a 2005 GS (mine actually!). It is well made and should even appeal to the Adventure lads It is on my bike parts website at www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk and will also be on fleabay soon (if I can be arsed) - hope it is of interest!

Mark, that rear seat area cover plate would be a far more attractive item if made to be easy on/off by using the seat mounting points. Others have done it but at silly prices---could you not have a go?

Firstly, guys, thanks for the feedback - I only have a stab at thinking what people would like (based on what i would like on my GS) so your comments are uber welcome

To answer some questions:

I don`t have an 1150 to do R&D on to make a plate for - if anyone wants to donate the time to allow me to develop one then i`ll see they get well looked after.

Easy on/off - a good idea but the machined stainless (it would have to be that) steel spigot would be quite expensive per unit but the other 2 locating points - currently plastic on the BMW seat - would need considerable inverstment in plastic injection tooling - geezers, this is a focused hobby for me (the prices reflect that) so I canot really justify the investment. Alternatively I could do them in stainless (weapon of choice - expensive but oh so horny) but they would not locate well with the receiving holes - plastic against stainless never `sits` well and I don`t ever want my stuff intentionally looking cheap through ratlles or wear. As you know, it is very expensive and that is why (apart from a bucket load of greed) why they are sooo expensive to buy.

nonetheless, i will keep it as an option because I would love an easy on/off rack myself though, to be honest, the 6 M5 fasteners are not really a big pain in the arse.

Compatability

Guys, I have decided to design a rack purely for the GSA rather than specify the GS one as also fitting the GSA.

Due to the differences on both it will allow me to change the design somewhat to fit the GSA better.

New R1200GS rack but not sure if it fits the GSA!

Hi All,

I have designed another rack to suit my 2006 R1200GS - this one extends further to the rear than the first one and allows for a much more flatter, larger load carrying surface - but I still don`t know if it will fit the GSA! Hope you like this one, it`s massively cheaper than the others on the market.

It is made to my usual high standards in quality stainless and is also hand finished so it feels lovely to touch!

Ok mate but don`t forget - I think the fitment on the GSA is different to the GS - i.e. I think the 6 fixing fasteners on the GS are not there on the GSA and the plastic cover is held on with a different arrangement.

Any of the Adventure geezers kind enough to comment?

Mark, It's easy to fit the BMW part that allows the Vario top box rack to the rear seat position. I used it to fit a Pelicase to the back, and it will fix a stainless sheet there too. Ask your local BW dealer.

Also, the GS and the GSA are basicaly the same in the rear seat/rack fittings department. Go have a test ride on a GSA. You can have a propper look and take some measuements too

Mark I like the idea of fitting a strong stainless plate to the rear load area, but I have personally moved away from using bungy hooks for securing loads, due to the risk of eye injuries from a 'flying hook' I use instead Rok straps, which are great. But to use them on your plate the slots would be better plain and with a slot(s) at the 'rear end, rather than the two 'hooks' you have now. Would it be difficult to produce a modified version? regards john

mark, i would stick with basically what you have got already, but have plain edged slots, along all 4 sides, each no larger than 25x 15mm. I would prefer the full lengh version, (doing away with standard rerar rack) perhaps a little wider than yours, to give more room for slots along the edges, but not too wide, so that it would obstruct anyone with top opening panniers, keep the long edges angled slightly downwards, as your on current one, so that if someone wanted to, they could perhaps fit a top box mounting plate forward, where the pillion would normally sit. Give me a couple of days and I will try and draw what I mean and email it too you.
Perhaps someone else would like to provide some input.

Yeah, gadg, sounds good. Naturally the drawings are imperative as, quite often, it is easy for anyone to misinterpret things - what you have clear in your mind might not be what I have!

Following clarification i`ll make one and if it is what we all understand to be right you will have `first dibs` on it

I would ask, however, for fitted images and feedback so that it may be of use to the benefit of other members.
