new r1150gs owner

I'm on a Remus Y-Piece / Original can setup too and I like it.

I'd definitely recommend experimenting with the steptoe link but maybe try it when you're used to the bike so that you notice the differences and can choose the setup that works best for you.

As for the screen it sounds like you're the same height as me. Have you tried the screen on a much lower setting? When I bought might it was on the highest possible setting. I played around and found the lowest possible setting gave me less turbulence.

For purely aesthetic reasons I like the adventure beak extension. Cheap to buy and I think makes the silver ones especially look nicer :D

!

ive been watching the beaks on ebay and just missed out on one the other day. and the tyres are tourances if thats spelt right, i thought they were the tyres of choice.

quite often dearer on ebay S/H then new..... About £35 quid from Mr BMW

thanks for all the advice guys. sounds like tobinators definatley worth getting but will try dropping screen to lowest setting as suggested and see if that makes a difference.

thought the beaks would have been far more than that from bmw so may grab one next month and want to get a service first and a centre stand mover so i can push it about in the garage as its a bit full with three bikes and a scooter.

is it only a remus back box and the original that will go on the middle section then or will any.

sorry for all the questions but how do the risers work and how easy are they to fit and do the cables need extending

Welcome...two things Tobinators to give you better screen adjustment often here and on eBay for about £40 make sure you get GS not GSA ones they are different....and get the seat recovered in black ... Google Tony Archer in Huddersfield in buy black ones from eBay....ok maybe three things Rugged Roads rear rack extn worth is weight in gold!!! And enjoy.....:thumb2

+1 for Tony :thumb2

Just had mine recovered and fitted with Gel Inserts

Before (also fitted an Adventure tank, HB engine bars, HID dip & main beam, TT frames & Zega Specials and removed the alloys since this was taken):

I'd only consider bar risers if you really know you need them. Like I said, get on it and ride it and see if you need them. They're very much a personal thing. :thumb2

i think i do need them as the bars are just a little too much of a stretch and giving me a bit of lower back ache so risers seem to be an option.

i was aware they were a stretch when i got the bike but thought i may get used to the different riding position

Bar risers should make a difference if the bars seem a stretch for you.

Prices from sub £30.00 it's worth a punt anyway
Just get the ones that extend backwards

While you are experimenting, if you feel you would like to try Tobinators first, I have a set I would be willing to loan to you for a couple of months, even have the Adventurer spacers if you can get an Adventure screen to try out, and with or without the Tobinators (have the kit pieces for both models). Some people don't get on with them so it would be expensive to get some and find you don't like them. Regards Dave.

thanks mate much appreciated if they are spare i would possibly be interested in just buying them off you.

also with regards to the risers do the cables need extending or are standard fine?

The 'Jaws' risers mentioned earlier in this thread (1" up, 3/4" back from memory) fit fine with standard cables and hoses.

Made a huge difference to comfort on my 1100

I second that, much better in fact several GS owning friends who'd had these bikes a lot longer than me did the same thing. So a good idea.
dave GS. You have got to remember you own the bike and you have ti ride it
so it's got to suit you not BMW, thats my motto anyway!.

emailed jaws to get clarification on the cables so will most likely get a set and i think it will make a big difference to the seating position for me

Will you post the reply here please? I'm going to order some and not sure whether to go for 25mm or 14mm rise depending on cables/lines - will save them answering same question twice :D

reply from Jaws

Hi Phil, fitting is about a 10 to 15 minute job.. It really could not be easier.. Simply unbolt the bars, bolt the spacers in place and then bolt the bars back on top.. All the cables are plenty long enough :-)

tax disc holder????

and the tyres are tourances if thats spelt right, i thought they were the tyres of choice.

Don't worry about the tax disc holder bit....you'll see why once you've been around for a bit.....some of the kiddies on 1200s seem to get their panties all bunched up about it, that's all :D

Tourances are good tyres for a road based GS :thumb2

Silly but free mod....try taking out the rubber rests in the foot pegs.....they just lever out and go back in just as easily, so they can be put in a pocket for fitting later in the day if you don't get on with the new position

The steel pegs actually give slightly better grip, and a lot better in the wet or with a bit of mud around, plus it'll give you a tiny bit more legroom :thumb
