New rear hub recall and this is the result

I'm sure I read somewhere that you should NEVER put the bike in gear and drive the back wheel while the bike is on the main stand - the drive train is at too much of an angle - esp when it is making so much noise !!

Not heard that before. I've done it several times whilst using the GS911 to recalibrate the gears after doing a reset.
 
The banging and crashing is gearbox backlash. It's normal but can't be good for any of the gears. Gently drag the back brake and the clattering will stop.

The wobble is because the drive flange has not been fitted properly. Send the video to your dealer and have them collect the bike and sort it out.

The front UJ (which runs through a wider angle) usually outlasts the back UJ. I personally believe the back UJ fails because the narrow angles rubs grease away from the needle rollers inside the UJ.

Incorrectly fitted wheel won't affect rotation of the disk - as others have said, the drive flange itself (to which both the wheel and disc are attached) has been fitted incorrectly.
 
the new Wheel/brake disc carrier isn't fitted correctly to the axle tube if the brake disc had remained straight but the wheel wobbled I'd have said its the Wheel not fitted square but the disc appears to be oscillating too!

I wouldn't ride it for the chance of "possibly" damaging the axle tube and costing you a lot of money!

(Besides the fact that its probably a total Cnut to ride like that anyway!!)
 
Seeing a few loose hubs on splines as the bikes get older,:confused:
One could speculate that pulling the hub off cold and fitting a new steel hub ,again without heating could damage components.(not that I have watched the process at a dealership so could be incorrect)
In fact I will be fitting a complete new assembly to a 1200s tommorrow for this very fault.
A low mileage garage queen!
Not good and feckin expensive.

Bike is currently at Dealers to be hopefully sorted out. I'll update you with any useful info, or if not, a load of old cobblers. :D
 
Update......the new flange they fitted had collapsed!!!!!! :eek:

Should be back tomorrow. Good service by dealer to sort it though.
 
So the steel flange which was fitted to replace the faulty aluminium flange under a worldwide safety recall has gone belly up , that could have interesting results if it requires another recall to replace the new flanges , what next, titanium flanges
