New reel, why not treat myself

I never saw the point of an expensive fly reel as it's just a drum that stores line.
That was until I had a go with a Loop ... and now I own a Loop!

That’s what I thought, then I picked up an excellent reel and now I own it!

Hmmmm...S Uist on 25th May.. ..will run it a close equals! Thats if Calmac gets me there! The birdlife alone makes it special, and then the machair lochs.....

And, I’ve now discovered, the flow country though I need to buy some more dry flies, particularly deer hair sedge. That’s all that worked the other day. Already plotting a return.

One of the best holidays I ever had consisted of 4 nights camping on the Machair shoreline on N Uist.
This was mid May, and the beach was swarming with birds.
In the early hours there was an eery bird call that sounded like a spooky scene in Scooby Doo - Never did find out what it was, but seem to recall a local saying it was a call either the Skylark or Nightingale (can't remember which) made at that time of year.
Went back another year in June with nowhere near the birds, but did see the Corn Crake on N Uist.

Wasting time before catching the Bernaray ferry I came across this amazing tidal area just a few miles from the port.
Talking to a guy that lived on a croft there, he told me he was the postie, but did a bit of guiding.
Told him I'd never caught a Sea Trout (since have) and he said come back in September and he guaranteed Sea Trout.

Not too sure if this would be what you call the flow country?

Flow country is Caithness/Sutherland...where Alastair was recently fishing.
Berneray is machair/heather moor.
I go to S Uist in May for trout in the machair lochs, and usually again in late Sept or Oct for sea trout and salmon. The birdlife in May is stunning.
