Just test rode an Electra Glide at Sycamore Harley, Uppingham. My first ride on a Harley. Hated it at first, then grew to love it. Didn't like the handlebar-mounted fairing, though, thinking it could affect handling on windy days. Anyway, I was then shown a brand new Road Glide Special in denim black. My partner and I loved the look of the bike. So, the deal I've been offered is £9k trade in for my 61 reg RT SE (6,800 miles). Price to change £10,730. But my partner wants the touring seat to make her ride more comfy and we're having the top box and backrest as well. That's an extra £2,099 including 3 hours fitting! Mind you, we get the £1,000 of free accessories knocked off that price. Any and all thoughts much appreciated

Really? :DOk then.... I loathe the look of the fairing on the Road Glide.....it's hideous it looks like an old Vetter fairing from the 70's.... The "batwing" as fitted to the Electra Glide and Street glide has no effect on the handling on windy days.......'tis a marvellous thing.

Cheers. That's interesting. I see your point about the similarity to the old Vetter fairing. My concern about the effect of a handlebar-mounted fairing also originates from the 70s :D

Denim Black paint is a bitch to look after.... it marks easily.... go Vivid Black.....

And I'm with Pingu, the Batwing is fantastic.... go and ride an Electra Glide again, also you can get them with the Tour Pack (Top Box) more easily!!

The Road Glide is an acquired taste and has been a discontinued model here in the UK in the past.... if you go for the RG in Denim i'd push the dealer for a "free" tour pack, I'm sure you may just get it...

Thanks for that. Is Vivid Black a gloss finish?

Street glide has the batwing fairing but less touring bling than an Electra Glide. I think.. :nenau Others are more knowledgable. :bow

Please don't discard the batwing fairing models because their great. On my recent trip to Germany on my Electra Glide two up and loaded (not boasting like...:D) we had serious cross winds coming into Calais and it was rock solid.

Vivid black is gloss and better than that black denim finish. Unless you want to be a hipster like jackass dave and want fading paint to match your fading jeans and fading ego. :aidan

Agreed buy an Electra Glide.. No point buying the stripped down version and paying to put stuff back on!

Just trying to answer his question about the Street Glide. :rob

Fangs in my little werewolf fanatic. :aidan

I however will most likely be buying a street glide!!!

Thanks guys. I'm impressed that the batwing fairing isn't affected by wind pressure/buffeting. I've been doing a bit of Googling and opinions seem to be mixed about it, but that's almost always the case with these things. One person I spoke to at the dealership said that in places like the Millau Viaduct, they don't let you cross in high winds if you have a handlebar-mounted fairing! Vivid Black sounds like a sensible choice, especially as it's cheaper (I think...). It also makes sense for me to buy an Electra Glide straight out, rather than adding bits to the Street Glide. It was only the frame-mounted fairing that made me look at the Road Glide. Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions...

Street Glide all day long but, not as a replacement for the RT, much as I've loved my Harleys, I wouldn't have one as my main bike.......

See now....I am not having a dig, I am merely displaying my dismay at another humans failure to make a decision by himself.
It is like life itself has become a fucking reality show, where we do our bit and then ask the panel to score our efforts, or intended efforts, like who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks?
I find it all a bit bizarre to be honest, so I suppose what I am saying is : If you like the bike and your partner likes it, then why ask on here? Get the best deal by being a downright cheeky fucker, pull no punches, get to the bones of it, it is only a bike, no big shakes for anybody is it? Or is it? Is it the fact that this is possibly the most important purchase you will make this year, is it the bike you have been wanting for years, is it the last you will ever buy because you are an old fucker, is because all bikes that have gone before have been shite.....Fuck it, we need more information from you!
