new seat, any advice......

Hi

have a 2009 GSA. Love the bike, not enjoying the seat. Is an aftermarket one, lower than the original which is perfect, otherwise the GSA would have been too big for me. Is just not that comfy on longer stints and when it rains, it appears to hold some water which aint so good the next time you get on it

Any ideas? As I said, needs to be lower than the original to keep the bike manageable.........

A pal bought the GS low seat (BMW) and declared it to be cheap and nasty.

I have the Wunderlich low seat, which I believe is the same as the Touratech seat, both of which are made by Kahedo?

I find the lower position to be better for securty, and it can't harm the centre of gravity either

If you can't justify the full price - keep your eye on Ebay for them.

But - S/H - expect to pay around £170-£220 for one.

I,m in the market for a low sargent one at the mo after selling mine 6 months ago £300 for a front one new.

I was looking for a 2nd hand Sargent but they were fetching such high prices I thought I might as buy a new one. Cost £300 + £30 for a matching pillion seat cover (dont carry pillions so I didnt need whole pillion seat).

The Sargent was very hard when I first got it but after 1000 miles or so it has softened up a bit and is extremely comfortable. It is aprox 2cm lower than the standard BM seat.

Love my Sargent seat and it'll be on my bike for good, it's totally transformed the long distance comfort

You'll get one (eventually) on here second hand for £200-£250

Love my Sargent on my standard GS.

The reason I sold my GSA was that a lower (Sargent) seat reduced the seat to footrest distance, thus causing leg cramp when riding long distance.

I'm very happy with my Sargent (low) seat on my GSA. However, of late I've been thinking that it is maybe not as comfortable as I thought, I had forgotten how uncomfortable the standard seat was after only an hour on my previous GS. The other day I was reminded how uncomfortable standard seats could be when I took out an RT for a couple of hours whilst the GSA was being serviced, my backside was in agony after an hour. It was bliss climbing back onto to my Sargent seat!

How long have you had it for? They do need a tad of breaking in, not much, just a tad. Once done they're uber comfy.

I didn't like the Sargeant on my 1200 and sold it again after only a week, I just did not like the way it "held" you in the seat.

Following advice from the learned gent's on here, I have my stock seat (1200GS Rallye) in the High front position and the normal rear position and problem solved.

It's more an issue (for me) with the seat canting your hips forward than it was with numb bum, give it a try it's cheap

Yep getting a full refund.

Dont get me wrong it's top drawer quality. Looks great.

Just not for me.

I've done a couple of long(ish) rides these past few days (9-12 hours riding with only very brief stops en route) and have found the stock seat on my GSA very uncomfortable after the first couple of hours. Not a "numb bum" as such, but pain in that bit of my thighs that is at the back, just below my arse cheeks, and also across the top of said cheeks. Standing up on the pegs relieves the discomfort but (a) it hurts as I stand and (b) it hurts even more as I sit down again. Is this the sort of thing that would be alleviated by tilting the seat back a bit (i.e. high position at the front, low at the rear)?

I had exactly the same discomfort as you. I tried altering the seat position but there was no real improvement. Bought a Sergent, after 'running it in a bit', it is just so comfortable, especially on long trips. Happy days

I've got an airhawk..

My view is wonderful in long straight m-ways/a-roads, but gives a very very strange sliding around feeling on the fun roads..

Yes it stops rotation a bit and the pain in the front bum bones if you lower the rear and raise the front but it doesn't cure it completely. Try Tony Archers.
