New Shoei Neotec - rain inside the visor...

Hi there, after 7 years in an old battered Shoei Multitec I've bitten the bullet and bought a Neotec. Wearing it for the first time today I rode through quite heavy rain and had drops of water sliding down the inside of the visor across the pinlock insert, approx one drop every 10 seconds.

Is this helmet faulty from the outset, or is there something I can adjust to tighten the fit between the top of the visor and the rubber sealing strip on the helmet? The rubber strip appears to be in mint condition, and looks as though it is touching the visor across its width. Clearly not enough though...

Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers.

I have a Neotec but I never ride with the visor locked down, never have done with any helmet.
I would say there is some adjustment on the visor plates, if you bring it to your Shoei dealer I'm sure they can help.

It may be worth checking the sides of the helmet where the visor pivots...difficult to describe but there's a sort of 'guide lug' on the inner side of the visor which slots into the mechanism on the helmet; in fact there are two, one which guides the rotation and one which slots under/into a slit on the helmet - if either, or both, are not seated properly the visor looks to be in place but doesn't seal properly - this is where I'd start looking. HTH even if it rather vague.

I have given up with the Neotec, too noisy and too wet, fiddled about with it for three years.

Have you used the silicone stuff on the rubber !
it often helps and is why it is supplied with the helmet

if its not new check its an original Shoei visor, as a copy will not fit as well

My neotec has always done this (had it about 4 years).

I have to say I changed from a c3 pro to a new neotec a few weeks back for this reason. The c3 pro pisses rain in and I have to say, so far so good for the neotec. In fact I was commenting to a friend how sealed up it appeared to be in shite weather

I suffer with this problem with my C3. When new I sent it back to Schuberth, - they returned it saying "nothing wrong"
It's all a bit disappointing really when you consider what we pay for these things.
However, I think that one of the problems is that I sit behind a large screen (GSA) which reduces the amount of air-flow over the helmet which in turn allows water to trickle down the inside of the visor. In fact when it is raining, I often have to 'pop' my head above the screen to clear the visor.

This thread relates to one of the most infuriating things about riding in the rain - water inside the visor. Whether it is a result of riding with the visor open, or water trickling down when the visor is closed the result is the same - reduced visibility at a time when even more careful observation than usual are needed.

I have a BMW System 6 which is essentially a Schubert and it is as bad as the C3 and Neotec described above. Is there not a helmet which performs well in this respect? Seems a shame to buy a £450 lid when the cheaper ones perform no less well and have the same safety qualification

I have two Neotecs. The oldest one recently started letting water in, when I inspected the top visor seal I found it was split. It has just been to Shoei in Germany for repair (at their expense) and it's now fine. The only other time I get water in is if I crack the visor open briefly to let a bit of air in, but that is to be expected. As mentioned in a previous post, don't forget to use the silicon grease on the seal from time to time.

I had the same problem from new,it went back,two weeks later came back and work a treat.They had to tighten something up....
However into my sixth year and the seal has just gone,so another trip to Shoei and repaired with a note to use the silicone stuff....

Mallard's got a good point. The more effective the screen at making a bubble for the rider, the less water is cleared. I also occasionally move my head outside of the bubble to clear the visor (or at least I did when I was in England)

Likewise, my C3 had floods down the inside of the visor, went back to Schuberth twice (8 weeks each time) till I got fed up with it and Infinity traded it in for me for a neotec, which I've had 3 years and works fine

My C3pro leaks , it's flipping dangerous because it actually splashes into my eyes. (Must be affected by airflow inside the lid)
I have given Schubeth a hard time on Twitter , they take it back , then , when returned the problem still exists.

If they were uk based I'd possibly fire-off a county court claim .... But the dialogue I've had is with some Germans.

I despise them. Not for the rubbish leaky dangerous helmet :
Any product with moving parts can give trouble ....

But for the fact they masquerade as a "quality" caring vendor when in fact they are nothing of the sort.

No problems with my Neotec but then I never fully close down the visor when I'm riding.......never have. Nothing like a shmall bit of rain on your face to keep ya refreshed!!

Had my Neotec for 4 years and something like that only happened once when on the M4 earlier this year in what can only be described as a biblical downpour when it was difficult to see much past a car length in front. Basically it was akin to power washing my helmet so hardly surprising really but my Badlands worked a treat!
