New Slippers via a Rocket to Vosges (And Switzerland)

My partner got a pair of slippers in Colmar on a car trip and I didn’t bother.

Always regretted it, so using this as the lamest excuse ever to disappear for a few weeks solo, I’m headed back to get some.

Will they have my size …….

Will my Rocket make it……

Will I get fined 11 euros for not being a hi viz conformist ……

Time to get going.

But first to visit an old friend …….

Day 1

Peak District to Gooners UKGS Palace near Dover.

Re packed a few times as space tight.

Easy run down.

Seems to be a sweet spot at around 64 with cruise on, buffeting ok

Arrive to the very hospitable Gooner to visit my V85tt he collected from me last week on my return from the dambusting plus trip.

Early to bed after paying the dogs their due attention.

Gooner and Gooner Minor administer first aid

Beautiful dog who is recovering from skin treatment.

I tried to steal his toys but he’s not having it.

Next stop Dover.

Will I queue for 3 years….

Will my bike get stolen in the queue ……

Will i be detained by French customs for a cavity search ……..

Will I wet Gooners bed tonight worrying about all the impending doom……

Gooner did warn me that if I left my door ajar, I might wake up to a big hairy thing slobbering over me and trying to lick my balls.

He was right, although I assumed he was referring to one of the dogs.

Day 2

Wake up to dry bed, goinvv go to bed a good day

Breakfast from Gooner and 30 miles to Dover

I know I bang on about Bedwetters and doom mongers…… but……….

Immigration.

1 car queue.

No helmet off

No biometrics

No gloved finger up arse (I did ask)

Check in.

No queue.

Saw a couple of betters in the queue ….

2 Dutch guys been to Cornwall.

Bikes didn’t like the heat so much.

Great to see them being used.

I’m always in awe of people who can fettle and keep these going

First stop Ypres.

I’m sure you all know its importance.

For me it’s another chance to visit the Gurkha memorial. They looked after me when I was not well a few years back.

Through the gate for a cold drink and to admire the City Hall.

Been loads of times, still a great visit

Amazing build, beautiful timeless lines, admired by millions………

Oh and some town hall type building.

Nice view on waking up.

A bit of RR cross pollination for Doc in the Harz.

Breakfast now then it gets v nice road wise towards Colmar.

Yesterday was nice enough on D roads, but it really starts today in my mind.

Will they have my size ………

Hah that’s a great idea.

It’s ok.

I was averaging around 27 yesterday so comfy enough.

Unlike 2 weeks ago here where it was hard going.

If you offered me two envelopes,

A. Dry but hot

B. Showery but mild

I’d open A every time

Re the slippers, my partner is obsessive about not wearing hers outside so I’d be on thin ice there.

I’m in lightweight boots anyway, with Goretex socks packed for any bad days……

Having said that it’s never a bad day on a bike
