Been looking at getting a slightly taller screen and i found this on the ADV Rider site.

ADVrider link

Part No 46-63-2-154-499

Seems to get a good review so far.

Here's the Blurb
A New R 1200 GS Tall Windshield
We are pleased to offer a newly designed tall windshield for your R 1200 GS. This is a great accessory for the GS rider looking to enhance the utilitarian aspect of their ride.
The R 1200 GS Tall Windshield:

* Optically clear polycarbonate construction features a scratch-resistant coating for great durability and a long-term quality appearance.
* Easy bolt on replacement for the standard screen utilizes stock mounting hardware.
* A smart, weather cheating profile that is three inches taller overall and three inches wider at the top results in a quiet, comfortable ride

Might check out the details and price on this side of the pond.

Sounds promising. Can you post the cost here when you find out, please? :thumb

I just phoned Astle's of Grimsby and that part number doesn't compute on the BMW system. He suggested that it may only be available for the murcan market.
:nenau

Can surely only be a matter of time before we get it over here, given our weather! I've emailed Wollaston's to see what they can find out - it does look good and at $115, doesn't seem unreasonable costwise either

It's an American market only part unfortunately. Becky at Southport Superbikes spent a fair amount of time chasing BMW for me before finally prising the aforementioned from them. Seems a daft idea given how bad the standard screen is (or perhaps they prefer not to admit to imperfections).

Givi must be furious... It looks exactly the same; but appears not to use any extra bracing unlike the Givi.

I wonder how much this new screen moves around at.

One thing this screen will do far better than the GSA screen is keeping the wind off your shoulders.

I am after a good windscreen to replace the stock one on my 1200gs, which I find extremely poor in terms of wind protection.

I am tempted to buy the ADV screen, since there are plenty of positive comments and happy customers!
Any thoughts if I should wait now for this new bmw tall screen to eventually reach europe (or maybe order it from the US) or simply forget it and go ahead with the ADV one?

Quick question to original_concept's comment: why do you reckon this new bmw screen will do much better than the ADV one in terms of keeping the wind off the shoulders? Any bad experience with the ADV screen?

Any thoughs will be much appreciated. :bow

Cheers!

I've just done the conversion from GS to GSA screen (easy fix):thumb2 Big difference (I'm 194 cm), and in connection with my new C3 helmet it's a treat:bounce1 driving.

I had the Givi before the GSA screen on moi GS.

Whilst overall I prefer the GSA screen, I do miss, when its a few degrees C and below only, the extra protection to the shoulders the Givi screen offered. The GSA screen has that 'cut in area' on the sides; this does lead to a noticeable cooling of the shoulders. That is my only issue with the GSA screen.

Of course, now its (sorta) getting warmer I'll enjoy the extra air to help keep my shoulders cooler!

Thanks a lot for your explanation. Didn´t realised that the 'cut in area' on the sides of the ADV screen could have the effect you mention, good to know! :thumb2

I will most likely go ahead with the purchase of the ADV screen. Should I also install the ADV winglets?

Thanks!

I might have one of the new screens available to buy in a couple of days...

Standby for further info. Price is likely to be around £150 if you're interested.

There's local tax, import duty, VAT etc. etc. plus a tenner or so to make it worth my while.

I'll look at the price when I know how much I've paid for it.

It's a BMW OEM part mind...

Jumpjim... did you find a G450X by any chance as mine is listed on ebay, this forum wont let me post a reply to your advert for some reason.

First Impressions

It's quite a blustery and rainy day today in Essex........with the wind there was hardly any of the buffeting that I have come to expect from the bike, even when riding behind vans, lorries and through wind breaks.

Against the wind, a small ammount of buffeting.

Much, much quieter - to the extent that plus 90 seems a lot less (I was surprised at the speed I was riding at as it was so much quieter and I wasn't being pushed about so much).

Easier to use an open face with this screen although, of course there is still some air washing around.

More wind around the midrif but not unpleasant.

The top wobbles a bit when idling but is stable when riding (I can't remember if the original did?).

Very pleased with the overall effect and looking forward to seeing what it's like long term.

I haven't tried adjusting it yet.

Is a bit tighter to fit and the front mounting holes are larger (possibly because you need to push it around a bit to fit it).

Recommended.

Hi Ironandsteel!

Thanks for your pics & feedback info on the new bmw 12gs screen, greatly appreciated.

Where did you order the screen from? I have been following the news on this screen and I gather it is not avilable in Europe, it is only sold for the US market. Did you get from a bmw US dealer?

Cheers!:thumb

No problem - I'm glad to help jarjao.

I bought a couple from Chicago BMW via a relative in the States.

So I do have one spare - PM me if you're interested.

Although I was lucky and didn't pay any import duty, I did have to pay admin charges from the carrier and USA insisted that they could only send surface rate.

Well worth it as far as I'm concerned.
