Hi again all! :)

I've taken advantage of my recent alternator stator problems to publish a new document on proper diagnosis and repair of these problems. It can be viewed at http://www.ukgser.com/technical/nic...f charging system (R-series, '13 on) V1.0.pdf.

There is also another, similar document currently in the works for '06-onward F-series twins. I'll give a yell when it's out.

...Though I've put this information out there, I sincerely hope that no one here ever has to use it. Take it from me, stator failure is a pain in the @$$.

Thanks for putting the time and effort into a very thorough and comprehensive thread.

there's a technical writers job out there with your name written all over it. +1

Having suffered two car alternator failures in my driving lifetime, it concerns me that these WC alternators are so difficult to fix. Fantastic write up..:thumb2.. but not a job for me.

Coincidentally, I am a technical writer by trade. :bounce1
I've worked for BAE Systems, but I currently work for the electronic warfare division of Airbus Defence and Space.

Brilliant doc there Nick! :thumb2 you are a star. Good to see technical documentation on here.

Thanks matey! :)
Funny enough, I was recently in Newbury, training up on the technical writing package we've recently adopted.
I stayed at the Chequers, and walked through town most every night. Fantastic place!

In my opinion, locating the alternator where they did constitutes a serious design flaw - but nothing can be done about it now.
Hopefully, the next generation will go back to an external car-type alternator... one can always hope!

Thanks matey! :)

It is a beautiful and quiet town indeed. There are some fantastic roads around here as well. If your travels bring you here again, let's meet up!
