New technical info on throttle body air bypass valves

Is that why the surging on the 1150s, particularly the single spark ones, does not afflict the 1200?

Spent many a happy hour fiddling with throttle body balance on my 1150.

Ebbo - have the folk on bmwsporttouring done much work on reverse engineering the BMS-K engine controller?

I have an interest in knowing whats inside there (specifically, the microcontroller used). Do you think they would be able to tell me?

I keep an eye on that forum as I ride an RT, but I don't recall anything about reverse engineering the BMS-K.
You could always sign up and ask, they are a very approachable group, good luck with that :thumb

The 1200GS does have a history of surging issues. I encountered bad surging on mine after an annual service ( where the shop swore they didn't touch anything to do with the throttle bodies, injection, idle setup etc. etc.) but I managed to reduce it by doing a thorough intake balance. At the time I was trying to sort the problem out, a few searches dredged up all manner of complaints about this very issue with the 1200GS. Apparently they run very lean on an even throttle which makes them rather prone to surging unless everything is absolutely bang on.

Grizzly,

Ken is a great resource for tech info on the 12GS. Go on bmwst.com and pm him or just ask the question/you will get a prompt and good answer.
