At the first service the TFT software was upgraded ( an o/night job).

Prior to this the bike would not fire up the Nav 6 .

It now works and shows traffic data and suggests re-route to avoid congestion plus location data that can be shared. This requires a connected phone with Garmin Smartphone App.

Dealer did not know what the software upgrade was for...........wonder if BMW know???

the latest software for the TFT is the 19 variant .last year was the 18 variant. The only difference is, it helps to connect easier to Bluetooth items. To be honest the Garmin phone app is not the best. I only used the older version of this last year, but i do know that has just been improved in the last few weeks ,so might run better.

Id use the Nav if was you for routes and the TFT as a digital speedo or at the most connect your phone to that ,if you need to use it as a phone

The dealer won't know what changes are made in the software unless there is a technical bulletin. When you connect the bike to ISTA+ (the software dealers use), it only shows you what modules require updates.

My bike was built feb 19 but still had this update wHIch the dealer said is a recent release but did not define recent.....

I use the Garmin app on my iphone to connect direct to the NAV 6 . it provide speed camera and traffic information. It's generally reliable so long as its the active app. I don't connect via the bike's tft, cant see any benefits in that and it bound to be flaky.

when I first got the Nav6, I tried using it as the hub, so Cardo headset to Nav6, iphone to Nav6 and control music through the Nav6. it kept crapping out so I now use the iphone as the hub and it works great all the time.

I find it weird that there isn't a publicly available release note for each release.

Of all the devices where I’ve upgraded firmware I can’t think of one which hasn’t had a release note.
Possibly more relevantly I thought garmin did produce them for the 590 GPS device I have but I couldn’t be sure and am not looking for an argument (cue John Cleese (?) saying this isn’t the argument that he’s paid for - it’s a contradiction!). 😀
