I'm planning a trip to Morocco early April on my company supplied R1200GS, ie the bike's registered in the companies name and is insured for my private use. Has anyone had experience of doing this before? I'll be taking the V5 reg documents + letter of authority from the company.

Welcome along.

Who do you work for? Got any jobs going? Only what one which come with a GS :drool

As for Morocco there is tons of advice for you do a search but I am sure someone along shortly who knows what they are talking about

trip to morocco

Hi there,
yes,all you need is a V5 + authorization from the owner (in this case your company). It would make it more easy for you if you translate the authorization in French, but is not realy necesary.Documents in English are generaly fine. You always find somebody who speaks English, apart of other languages, around.
You need to stamp your passport on board of the ferry(fill in little yellow document with your details(both rider and pillion),once of the ferry police first checks your passport by leaving ferry(if you stamped it),then you have to pass trough the customs office, where they put your details into the computer, pillion doesn´t need to do that, than you fill in the three sheet (green, yellow and white) temporary importation document which you get from the customs officer, and he then puts all the details of the vehicle in another computer(will ask you the V5 and maybe/maybe not the autorization document). All this proces takes between 15 - 45 minutes, depend how busy the border. You keep the white and green sheet during your stay in Morocco and when leaving, first you(and pillion) need to stamp your passport again by the inmigration office(another little white paper, take it on the ferry by comming in and have it ready by entering port. Then the customs police will stamp the temp.importation document again and you get the white part as a reminder of your trip.To get out of Morocco takes generaly about 10 minutes, depend of the queue.Normaly its fine to be in the port 30 minutes before ferry departure. With bike they generaly wave you through quickly.
Apart of that, there are hundreds of guys in the border area crazy about helping you with all the paperwork and showing you around so generaly for about 3-5 euros you don´t even need to touch a pen.Anyway, first time this can be a stressfull experience.
We will be on 6th of April on the Tarifa-Tanger 11.00 ferry, feel free to join us for the border crossing.
regards
Hana:roll

Please don't give money to the touts at the border, there's absolutely no reason for this. Would you pay touts to enter the UK? Anyway your border transit would take longer as they drag it out to make it look like they are doing something for you.

Do the temporary import documentation over the Internet before you leave, http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137399

If you cross to Tanger the passport formalities will be done on the ferry, if coming in through Ceuta you'll need to complete the passport form at the border.

Huh,some terrible misunderstanding going on here.I am not saying to give money to anybody!!!You will quickly find out, that everybody ask´s you money anyway, helped or not helped.
Tim is right, didn´t ask you which way you go?
Anyway, have a great and safe trip. Rule nr.1 by overtaking, make sure the driver of the car you´re going to overtake knows, you´re there.Mirrors get poorely used by Moroccans, indicaters almoust never, and never drive in the dark if possible.
You´ll be all right after a short while and there are only two possibilities,Morocco you whether love or hate, so go and find it out!!!

Thanks for the advice. We'll be in Morocco 9-10th April. Anyone there at the same time look out for GS1200, a Trans Alp & a Harley Night Rod (wouldn't be my choice for this sort of trip but hey) Should be fun!

Where are you sailing to ? I'm on the bilbao ferry on the 1st April. and the Tarifa/Tanger ferry on the 6th. at 11:00am refit tyres and head south....Timbucktu or bust.

I'm not 100% certain yet that I'll be doing the trip, but I'm considering taking the Portsmouth ferry on Tue 31 March, arriving Santander 1800 on Wed 1 April. Then taking the westerly route (via Salamanca) through Spain and then crossing over to Morocco some time on Fri 3 April. Probably on 1200 GSA.

Personally, faced with the wacky races of a que, i reckon 15 euros was well worth it to jump to the front and we were thru in 15 mins. Depends on how much of a rush you are in, we didnt on the way back but thought it was a few quid well spent on the way in. I would say agree a price before you engage a tout. Dont fall for the 'you pay us what you like afterwards' gambit.

D`oh...you maybe want to be paying 3-5 euros for that ...not €15..... 15 mins is`nt worth £14.....50 dirhams is a lot of money there...

Just say`in...

Yeh was quite alot i agree, but seeing as though our bikes werent stamped out of the country the first time we left which caused a right royal shouting match and my Moroccan isnt that good, we were happy to pay that between us.

But i get the point... Maybe the price goes up exponentially the longer the que lol..
