Has anyone ever actually had valves adjusted? I dont mean checked, I mean adjusted.
Wapping, that's the problem, the were reluctant to go into detail, just trying to put me off, I thinkThe only problem I had with the gearbox, was the failure of the quick shifter. It was repaired under warranty.
Parthia the few (or you) could be a bit more specific, please.
Gearbox cluster problems was an occasional issue on the early bikes. Largely a thing of the past, by the time of the facelift in 2017, but they are a complex machine, so shit can happen obviously. These days the reverser module appears to be the main beef - it is a simple enough part that allows the starter motor to power reverse, but costs stupid money to fix. The starter sprag clutch can play up, where the starter motor whizzes up but the clutch doesn't engage to turn the engine over.Morning chaps, I have read these posts with interest, as no-one has mentioned the gearbox.
I am thinking of buying a k1600 and the few people I have talked to said don't buy one, many have gearbox problems.
Is this true or is it just a handful of bike with issues?
My experience overall with BMW'S has been very good over the last few years, all but one were secondhand as well. M

I’d definitely agree with and repeat about watching the tyres. As in post #10, you will notice how, not so far after 3,000 miles, the bike starts to ‘track’ any uneven road surfaces. It’ll also ‘shimmy’ over white lines in the middle of the road. That’s the first tip off that wear is starting. After that, it’s a one way street to 4,000 miles.
How bods get 8,000 or whatever out of them is a mystery, at least to me.
