The BMW ones I think being a cantilever design wouldn't take much to push into the rocker covers. I've fitted reinforcing struts (yes...ok...Touratech!) to mine.

Thats why i didnt buy OEM ones, and instead went for Givi ones that mount on four points, thus helping to stop them hitting the rocker casings should the bike go down.

Seen those and they look spot on. Mine came with the bars as standard being a GSA hence all I did was to fit the Touratech reinforcing struts. Cost was stupid for a few pieces of metal but cheaper than replacing the whole bar sets.

I paid less for both upper and lower bars £300 or there abouts, than i was quoted for bottom oem bars ! £450 fitted by dealer.

That's not at all bad. The reinforcing struts were £125 on their own

Here they are fitted to mine. Not the best angle from the front but you can see from behind that they offer a lot of additional support:

Once again, thanks for the feedback on this question. So.... I’ve purchased via eBay and via China, cheap alternatives to the eye wateringly expensive branded, front fender extender and rear shock protector (about £150 saved there, gotta be worth a punt......?). But do I do the same with the cylinder head protection? c.£50 via the same eBay route or is the extra c.£100 for the branded version. Quality here is obviously far more important, and case of you get what you pay for? I’m leaning towards the branded solution here as not worth the risk.

On the Chinese rear mudguard, just check fitment when bike is on centre stand and on its side stand under load.

Some owners were reporting it rubbing on the swingarm, and wearing through the paintwork.

You may need to modify it for clearance.

I did the same with the mud guard and crud catcher, head guard covers, I slid down the road at 45 with branded ones a few years ago and they did the job, scratched to shite obviously but I would stick with them in the future. On my current one I have the BMW head guards and they do not protect as well as the Moto / machine art ones, on a drop they can tip the bike past the cover and scratch the top of the cylinder head, I did it on the drive last month

Will do, thank you.

Yeah, am currently thinking I’ll pay extra for some peace of mind..... Thanks for the advice.
