New to me GS1200 Rallye - “Must Haves”

So....... I'm still waiting for delivery of the bike....but being the impatient fella that I am, I've purchased cheap ebay versions of front and rear fender/shock protection, XHead cylinder head protection from NN, then an absolute must, a 2nd hand Akro end can from the forum :)

Before you start bolting loads of weight to the bike, what will you be using it for?

Road Touring? Green Laning? Hard Off-roading? Round-The-World trip?

lol you forgot to add ""posing"" and buying a second different marque to do do the stuff you suggested to the op ;) :augie

So you don't think a bike needs the engine bars if its only on the road? Dont they offer lots of protection for the engine in the event of a fall?

I got hit from behind on my recent tour at a junction which damaged my leg badly. Bike fell over as my standing leg was the one hit. Bike has zero damage apart from tiny scratch on engine bars. A cylinder head cover alone is £150 ish so after my experience I think the bars are the first thing I would fit

So today was the day! I am now officially a GS owner (never thought I’d ever say that......). A few logistical challenges getting her down from BMW Aberdeen, but bang on time this morning, so top marks there.

Really happy. Really impressed. The Rallye colour scheme is really eye catching in the flesh.

Cheap Chinese plastic fitted to stop crud - all fitted in minutes and seem to sit perfectly.

Grip Puppies the same.

Akra end can on - always wanted one, never had one before. Adds a nice little bark.

ACF50 applied - far too thick again, even after warming it and applying with a hairspray type pump bottle.

Tried to figure out all the settings and controls, and went out for a blast for an hour........

Really took some getting used to, and I’m certainly not there yet, as she’s one hell of a different bike to my Z1000sx. But I think we’re going to get along just fine

Any advice on -

Road or Dynamic for day to day riding? Dynamic sure does make her go but really snatchy at low speeds.

Can you change the tyre pressure reading to psi rather than bar? Doesn’t look like it.

When powered on but not started, it sounds like there’s a flux capacitor using 1.21 gigawatts somewhere. Is this normal, if so, what is it?!

Thanks!

Indicator guards

I would add some indicator guards (The cheap ones from ebay are fine).
The indicators look like they are on Rubber Mounts, but they are very fragile and can be snapped just by brushing past them !

I fitted an Adventure pattern screen (about £60) and this helped with wind protection, as long as you don't set it to steep.

I normally run engine in Dynamic and suspension in Road.

Fender Extender and Mudsling.

Maybe see you riding around Northants .

Cheers,

Piggers

Cheers Piggers. Will take a look at the indications, assumed they were rubber mounted!

Keep an eye out for a shiny Rallye. That’ll be me ;)

Thanks all for the feedback. I've got the Nav6 fitted now and have psi pressures up on that, so sorted.

Can anyone help me please on the electrical noise (sounds like a high voltage electrical buzzing) when powered up and not running? Is this normal?

Thank you!

Probably normal.

The fuel pump initializes when ignition on...

Cheers Warlord (I have received the Akra end can by the way, and it didn't have the jubilee you needed?). I hear the fuel pump initialise, but then the buzz carries on until you either start her up or power off. I guess I need to listen to another GS to be sure.

Are you hearing the exhaust flap cycle through its full range ok? If not, that could be the buzz you are hearing.

Suspension , exhaust , engine bars , 35 ltr soft bag , kreiga US 10/20 ( plus straps) MRA screen , proper handguards, front case cover, hugger all will be useful , sat nav , wired coms , side tool carrier (other preferencese of course) Oh don't forget some nice roads. :thumby::thumby::thumby:

Is there a kit that fits the toolbox without the pannier side frame?
