New to the 1200GS Riders : How long did you keep your 1200GS before selling??

2 years and 9000 miles.

Simple fell out of love with it. Felt like a diesel in comparison to my KTM950, stopped using it as I wanted a more sporty ride. The KTM sounds better, brakes better, handles at least as well and feels more alive. Plus I always felt uneasy about all the reliability issues and thought I would sell before there was too many and the prices dropped.

Got a reasonable price for it, and not going to replace it with another BMW. Looking back I had a lot of good times on it , but if I want another tourer I would plump for a 990 KTM adventure.

Sold my 1200 GS after 6 months!Previously owned 1100GS and 1150GS,but now riding a 1200RT and loving it :D
Prehaps its just my age! :o

Unlucky

There will always be 'rogue' bikes that give problems. !!! The 1200is a brilliant bike...mine will be fior sale later this year ...and yes, a new one will replace it at 30k miles. A lot of sports bike type riders just change each year, hardly ride 'em and just psoe around (I know I was one of 'em !!! :D )
Best all round bike on the planet.................my a trip to the moon and back :thumb

Obviously there's many new 1200GS riders, who bought one and never had a BMW before and think it's the dog's bollox

There are also a lot of "old school" BMW riders that have bought a 1200 and like it lots, you say there are a lot of low milage 1200's for sale, true, but there are also large numbers of 1150/gs/gsa's also for sale with low milages, immaculate, never been off road, adverts for touratech and wunderlich! These were available when i was looking for my first GS, but after trying a number of models the 1200 won my heart :nenau

I must admit, I had'nt recently owned a BMW before the 1200 but I wouldn't think that would make me less of a judge of a bikes worth.

To add a bit of ballance to the reliability issues, I've been on a few ride outs with a local bike shop (spc's) the ONLY bikes to be relayed home were 1150gs/gsa's, one with final drive failure, one with electrical failure, other 1150's suffered petrol leaks, missfires and were the only bike's i've seen for a long time where the owners carried extra tools for on the roadside repairs :nenau of the 3 or 4 1200gs's no problems were reported all got there owner s home safe and happy :clap

The one thing that does become a bit of a bore after a while, is the continued insecurity of airhead/11** gs and gsa owners, yes, your bikes are good, in your opinion :nenau so what!

Shep :bounce1
