The other trick with them is to coat them in high-temp grease before you fit them.

Makes them easier to install and remove, and gives them some much needed weather protection. Since I started doing that I've had no problems in around 50K or so, mind you that would be with the newer parts as well. (bike has 107K on the clock).

But you get a warranty and a guarantee that they are the genuine article. You'll only spend it once in a lot of miles so worth the £40 extra imho.

Or you get the same item re package in a BMW bag. Why do people go on about "genuine parts" when large parts of the vehicle are simply bought in from outside sources anyway. If you can get the same item elsewhere for considerably less money why not do so. Any reputable company will be give a guarantee. I would always advise that people should buy quality parts but to suggest that this is only possible by paying the vehicle manufacturers parts prices is misleading.

Due to tie constraints....ie I had a ride planned..i ordered one from my local bm dealer and although t boke my heart to pay over the odds at least I had it the next day.
jeremyj... I noticed you say coil with lead. I now require a led. could you tell me were I can purchase the item you talk about(8111916). Is that direct fro BERU ?
O ad by the way, did I say thank you to everyone for their help.

Just unplug your wiring from the end of the stick - it coes away very easily - put your existing wire onto the new stick, push it back in the hole and turn the key.

King rat..... It is possible that I did not explain myself fully. I bought new stick coils from BMW and then found one of the three pin plug connectors that feeds the coils with lecky is snapped. I made a temporary repair to get me out but its broken again. I now need a new three pin female plug and while I fully realise I can order one from BMW or Motorworks there is no way those money grabbing b-------ds are getting £60 off me for a bit of plastic and three bits of wire ten inches long which I still have to splice into the main harness of the bike. I will find the correct plug which, I am led to believe is the same as a DELPHI diesel injector connection and make some kits up myself. When I prove them I will let the site know just in case anyone else is as tight as me lol.
Actually while im on a rant, I also think I have found the exact stick coils at Eurocarparts for ,get this, £18 plus the dreaded vat
