Having been the happy owner of an 06 gsa for about 5 minutes i am about to embark on my first big trip. I know very little about the bike except that I love it and cant wait to get to the alps. I am about to change the oil and fit a k & n air filter (last bike had one and it was great). Also bought a set of wunderlich fork protectors and heres the question at last:: How do I fit them? Can i undo the top of the forks and just slide them on? Surely can't be that easy can it? I originally ordered the touratech ones but they were out of stock so was sent the wunderlich ones instead.

Am looking forward to your comments / replies. Hope this question doesn't make me appear too much of a gsa mong!!

Firstly ... welcome to UKGSer, its good to have you here with us.

Secondly .... I'll shift your post over to the 1200 Technical section of the forum where I'm sure you'll get a much better response to your mechanical queries.

Enjoy your stay with us and it might be useful to know that we have a 'search' facility here (at the top) just type in a key word and it should dip you into some of our archived threads.

:)

save the money for the K & N. it won't make any difference.

Thanks, will fit it anyway as its here now (nippy normans v efficient delivery). Still unsure as whether or not to fit the fork protectors as nobody has replied to that, and I don't really know whether I need them (nobody seems to have them). Might just send them back.

Welcome to the fold. Great bike and you won't look back (if ye ken fit I mean?)

As for the fork protectors, I wouldn't bother as very little gets up that way, they occasionaly need a wipe down for dust but that's it.

Did a trip over the Alps on mine in June and it was brilliant, perfect bike for the job. They really are the swiss army knife!! Even did a lap of the Nurburgring on the road up!!

Cheers Pal,

Looks like the fork thingies are on their way back to nippy norm! Thanks for saving me some cash (will need it for beer on the trip).

Make sure your 'Ring Antenna' and 'Fuel pump controller' have been sorted before you go!!!!!

K&Ns are good coz you only ever need one (make sure its still there after a service and that they dont charge for filter replacement).:thumb2

Fork leg thingys not really needed.

Keep an eye on the oil level specially on a long trip they do burn a bit of oil at low mileages!!:rob (about 1/2 to 1Ltr per 1000miles).

Hey Jonnnie boy,

Thanks for the advice, all sorted now including ring antenna etc. Put the included (keep off) sticker from the k & n on the cover so should be ok.. Can't wait to get there now, another month to wait... Will post with how it went when I gt back.

Kool, look forward to the Ride Report!:bounce1

A good addition/mod is the rubber mud flap (rear), which hangs off the underseat storage tray, as an alternative to a hugger (usless on a GS!).
Keeps 90% of the filth/water off you and the rear of the engine!:thumb2 and its relatively cheap too:thumb

Do a search for rear mud flaps/ huggers its there somewhere. I'll have a look in a bit.:guitarist
