New to UKGSER, looking at options

Having been buried in teams calls all day, I've not had a chance to call anywhere to book in a test rides so I'm going to take a chance and head to a couple of places tomorrow morning and hope for the best.

Looking at a 2017 R1200GS TE first and then a F850GS on the way back as a point of comparison. It would have been nice to get a Tiger 900 in as well but I have to be back home by afternoon. I'll be out the door at 8ish tomorrow to get to the first place by opening time.
Good luck, don't forget to take your photo driving licence with you (y)

If I was buying a GS again I would be looking for a good older twin cam R1200GS (up to 2012), not as quick as the newer LC GS but still plenty fast enough. There are usually some good ones for sale on here. Also several on Autotrader that look good such as these. Not sure where you are located.

I have a 2017 GS for sale in the Sale section. Sounds just what you’re after and I can do you a deal. It’s in excellent condition and I can let you have a test ride as I’m in Northampton. Two owners from new, 12k miles, FSH and just had the big 12k service.

I've actually put a deposit down on a GSA this afternoon, should it fall through for any reason I'll be in touch 👍

I've had to do a we buy any bike kind of thing for the Z900 but that should be going on Thursday, hopefully confirmed tomorrow. The GSA is in my preferred colour and comes with panniers, top box, nav, carpuride, all recalls done, fresh service including valves, recent tyres and an absolute tonne of documented history. If I can get everything lined up, I should be able to collect by the end of the week.

To bring this to a conclusion, I picked up my GSA this afternoon. I'll need a bit of time to get used to it as it's very different from my previous bikes but I'm very happy so far. It's been a bit stressful getting to this point with various dealers taking the piss on offers for the Z900, fortunately one was fair and really efficient at getting it done.

I will have a couple of bits that came with it that I don't need so I will be putting them up for sale once I pay my membership.

Don’t rush to sell any bits and pieces. As you begin to gel with the bike you might find them useful. Enjoy it. JJH

I did swing by sportsbike shop on the way back, unfortunately no xl covers in store so I'll need to get one ordered.

There was less filtering than I would usually do, the size will take some getting used to but the panniers won't be on all the time so it should be easier in future.
