in the resources bit of the home page

resources
GPS stuff for morocco
and
on-site resources
GPS stuff for morocco

both take you to the same page ? it kind of looks like to me they should have been seperate pages?

Those are just place holding pages so far- they'll be going up this week :)

To cut some of the blurb out, would it be an idea to have a FAQ page?

Re. maps. Whilst I have no problem with sharing info with chums (even virtual ones on UKGSer, who I will probably never meet) I wonder if you should hesitate before being too detailed? Many (if not all) of the tour companies (MCI etc) never post up the hotels / routes they use. Why? Because, it stops people simply copying them.

Contact details

Bill, add a contact number up top.
An email is an impersonal contact, a phone number is a personal one.. people who see a phone number, tend to be more accepting of a site, as they feel they have a way to contact the people it relates too. Also make sure you have a postal address there too. If you don't people will doudt your credibility if they don't happen to know you through forums like this.

If you even slightly give the idea of hiding info, some people will be put off. Its a mental thingy maaa bob..

Otherwise, the site looks a bit crowded. Your choice of a black baground in the whole might not be the best in my tastes. But thats probably a very personal thing.

The golden key, is function. People need to know what you do, and how to get intouch with you. You have approx 3.1 seconds to get that info to them or they go else where unless they are specifically searching for your site.

Oh and lastly vertical text on the roll overs does not look good to me (again a personal one) .. I would try and overlay horizontal style too! Makes it easier to read.

i would say you have enough comments now Bill... delete or close this thread until you have done more work on the site.. leaving this thread up with the site the way it is can only be a bad thing... not all publicity is good publicity no matter what others say;)

It's a fine balancing act- I do want the site to be a resource as well as a shop window, but you're right, I won't be putting up full detail (probably :blast)

I've sent out dozens of routes to people from here who are going independently anyway- my logic is that by being helpful, even if they're not coming with US, they'll hopefully have a great time and when they tell people about it afterwards, there's a good chance we'll pick up more business from it, particularly if the person who went mentions that we were of assistance- there are some who will never go with an organised tour and that's fine- the more people want to go though, the more likely it is we can pick up some of the business :)

FAQ page also coming soon :thumb

i disagree with the phone number thing... it's not a shop, it's not essential until the viewer decides he's really interested in possibly booking a trip... the name of the site would give most people enough of a hint to what the site is about.... booking a trip is not like buying a tank bag.. i can buy an identical tank bag off maybe 30-40 sites... but a trip site is unique so i don't think the same rules apply.

Yes it is quite crowded but again its a very difficult thing to get right.

On another forum I use this guys website got a lot of criticism but then I thought it was quite nice ... each to their own.

Also agreed that, abit like asking this site for comments and valuation on a bike I don't think I would with my companies website.

It's improving as it goes on though- and the only way of making sure it does get better is by having people pull it apart.

If it was an embarrassing mess, then yes, I wouldn't be wise to encourage people to criticise it, but It's not that bad and you can see stuff getting added as it goes on........this is only a test at the moment, A beta if you like :)

There is an awful lot more content to go on and the gaps will be filled in over this week.....I'll give this another few hours to get any other comments I think, then I'm going to close it, move it to the computer help section and work on the parts that have been picked up on already :thumb2

Thanks to everyone for the comments so far :beerjug:
