New year breakfast and ride out Saturday 3rd January 2026

The Proposed road ride/ Bimble will leave the café after breakfast ( time to be confirmed ) it will be about 60 miles approx. 2 hours around Rutland using a lot of single track tarmac lanes.
It will end at a café close to Melton / Asfordby to be confirmed. ( not many places open at this time of year.)
Derek will be tail end Charlie.

The Grange is a lovely venue, really enjoyed a previous UKgser brekkie meeting there.
Seems they are making an event of New Years Day.

Looking at the weather forecast for Saturday is raising concerns about the ride out.

There is forecast for some snow ️ on the Friday and the temperature looks like not rising much above zero on the Saturday!

Chris has shared the route with me and confirmed it will mostly be on single track roads that are unlikely to be gritted by the respective councils.

On that basis I propose that road ride is postponed until finer weather.

The breakfast meet will still go ahead.

Seems a sensible plan, most of my riding in winter on the little Himmie is on back lanes, but when temperatures hover around Zero I would probably not ride.

Very good turnout in the circumstances and the food was excellent IMO.

I hope the 3 ‘true bikers’ had safe journeys home and good to see one of them was on a 40 year old airhead

Safe ride back - just a tad cold, but the bike didn't mind!! Roads north of the venue were reasonably ok - dry, but occasionally difficult to discern between ice and salt.......

The “oldish BMW” was a R1200GSA so well done for bringing it in the conditions.

Steve’s R80 was put to the test as his winter bike.

I know Mick had a long journey home because he was sticking to main roads only.
