I've got my tickets for the England Pool games at the Rugby World Cup. I'm thinking of sea freighting my bike over there. I'm considering this rather than hiring - a} to save costs b} because I like riding 'my bike'. I'll be touring round North and South Islands in between the games. I'm guessing that flights to New Zealand around this time are likely to attract a premium because of the Rugby.

I'm gauging interest to see if anybody else might want to do this and share a container. I've only really done internet based research at the moment and it appears that the bikes will need to leave at the beginning of July 2011 to arrive for the end of August. To be cost effective there needs to be 4 or 5 bikes which should cost about £1250 each to ship there and back). Therefore you will be without your bike next summer and it may not be back in the UK until Christmas 2011. The time frames may prove to be shorter but I'm factoring in Sod's law!

The plan is to get the container cleared and delivered to a bike dealer or freighting agent in Auckland for us to collect from and return to.

My intention is to stay in New Zealand from 1st September to the 2nd October thereby see all the pool games, return my bike to the container and fly home. I'm happy for the return shipping not to happen until the end of October, though I will most probably have left for the UK a month before.

People can join me in my tour if they wish or travel on their own - The England games dictate my itinerary (Christchurch on Sept 10th and the 18th, Dunedin on Sept 24th and Auckland on Saturday Oct 1st). I'll be staying with friends for some days (where it won't be possible for you to stay with me) and at hotels or B and B for others (I will take a tent for emergency). Others are welcome to join me for the tour or just make use of the container for their bikes and belongings. I'm flexible on this. I have a very relaxed attitude to touring and prefer to 'see what the day brings' rather than plan to the Nth degree. I'm advised by my pals in New Zealand that the weather will be spring like at that time of year and it maybe frosty occasionally on the tops.

If you're interested please reply or PM me before end of Sept 2010. then I can start to make more detailed enquiries.

PS if anybody has ever shipped bikes like this before and can offer me some advice I would be grateful to hear from you even if you're not interested in joining in.
