Recently sold my GS650 which I had from new - great bike but not really suitable for the long distances we have to cover here in Northern Australia to get anywhere - and I am in the throws of purchasing 2002 r1150gs which I hope to have by the weekend.. I enjoy this forum which has already proven to be a valuable source of information when our local BMW dealer was unable to reset the ABS on the aforemention 1150 because it would not talk to his shop computer.. you got to wonder??

Cheers to all.
Mark

Welcome mate! I too have an 02 R1150GS and am mega-pleased with it. I didnt opt for ABS although therewere some about and after a complete strip down due to cam chain tensioner guide rail break am glad I didnt - apparently it makes for an awful lot more hassle to rebuild. Best of luck with yours:beerjug:

thanks all for the welcome.. RichGSer really hope no rebuilds necessary, Eujy.. mate it's winter time for us which in my part of Australia is perfect bike weather clear skies max temps 24 deg C, our summer (Xmas) is tad uncomfortable with the gear on at 35 deg C but ok as long as you keep moving..

Hey... its the height of summer over here yet I would crush my right nad to get a decent run of 24 degrees right now!!!

So as an update.. very pleased to be a new 1150 owner and so far very happy with the bike.. it's pretty well stock standard so will have to go shopping. It also only has the standard GS screen complete with the bufferting issues well reported here and over at advrider - this needs some looking into.. Cheers Mark

Screen

Hi Mark my 1150 GSA screen has that same buffeting effect but its not to bad really,i can live with it iv just come back from a 650mile trip and it was ok,but i have recently bought a flip up screen from a company called powerbronze online its great quality so il get around to fitting it this week and see how it goes.

A month later

So I have had her a month now, progress has been - solved the bufferting with some home made winglets, purchased some second hand BMW alu adventure panniers and top case at considerable cost - modified the rear foot pegs becasue 300 aussie bucks bit steep for an adapter kit and managed 1000 km run over weekend complete with speeding ticket - plenty more trips planned. Already love this bike..:thumb
