I have servo assisted ABS on my 07 GS, no ACS. many criticize the Servos, but I have had no trouble in almost 50k kms and the brakes are fantastic. I resently had to use my brakes in a real panic situation, I was absolutely sure I was going to hit the car in front. I didn't the bike stopped and was tottally unruffled, I was sweating. Brilliant pieces of kit, you only realise how good they are when you REALLY need them.

This answers most my questions too, I know I don't want adventure, want the best tarmac performance possible, no off-road in the true sense, gravel tracks and little travelled lanes and Alpine passes are my limit for "Adventure"

Biggest fear is hating handling on good roads after 25 years of sportsbikes, but it seems many here have made that change.

Overopt for Ally panniers not the Vario's, as there's little room for two up touring luggage

I thought the Vario's were huge? I am used to two-up touring with two 34L panniers and small tank bag (only big enough for waterproofs) and small top-box that I never load more than 5kg as it has poxy moped top box I am scared will fall off.

Surely these vario's are a lot bigger than I am used to?

You'll be surprised how well they handle. The only thing you'll have to get your head round is the telelever front end which doesn't give you as much feed back as traditional forks. :thumb2
