Hello to you all, yes another Newbie with lots of questions?? Please bear with me; I hope you can help!!
:type
I’ve wanted a 1200GS Adventure for sometime now and soon I can finally purchase one and I can’t wait.
My background:- I passed my bike test in 1996 before the bike test changed. Before my test I didn’t have an interest in motorbikes if I’m honest but whilst taking lessons I got the bug. When I passed my test I bought a fireblade RRV which was great, I did the American Superbike School at Oulton Park etc but after a couple of years and after meeting the Mrs (who wanted me to sell it) I got rid.
4 Children later, Mrs not bothered and a massive need/want to get out more, meet people and travel, I’m going to take the plunge.
Having trawled this site and having been to BMW Manchester (a few weeks ago) I could do with some help.

Firstly, the dealers. I’ve almost decided I want a new but I’ve read that they don’t discount? Do they throw in stuff? I need everything!! Does anyone know a generous dealer? Any ones experience or advice would be very welcome.

Secondly, Clothing. If I buy a BMW Jacket etc will I be labelled a tosser? Any advice on Helmets and Boots?

Many thanks
C.

Good luck Phil.

Ps, if ya test ride one you'll buy it...:thumb2

Forgot ta say.

Make your own mind up...:augie

Twat suit :jes

I am thinking of a test ride but I've read about people dropping their new bike!! :blast

Don't worry, just do it...
If ya drop the test bike..who gives a shyte:D

Ya'll have to come to the Windmill meet last tues of each month...meet some of the crew (look in the NorthWest section for details)...:beerjug:

Yes - don't buy a twat suit, you'll just be a twattish tosser!! :D

Thanks for the replys chaps!! and I'll get to the windmil for a  thanks as soon as I get fixed up.

I'm going to chance going back to BMW in town tomorrow, need to try and keep my wallet in my trousers!!

Well, I'm having second thoughts on the twat suit so where is the best place or largest stockest of suitable equipment in the Northwest? I live in Stockport so nearer the better?

Thanks,
C.

Always a vast choice at J & S in Northwich...

If you like burning £3000 then buy new.

THere are plenty of nearly new ones out there. Save yourself the money to spend on holidays or a present for the wife :thumb

As for outfits. You can get a new BMW suit for a couple of hundred quid less than list. Ring round. Again pay full price if you want to burn money.

Arai are the best helmets. Get the Tour x.

Get some Alpinestar off road boots or the BMW ones

I've had 6 GS's and have always got bits thrown in. I have had the last 3 from Jeffries in shipley bradford. I do the rounds on the phone and visiting then play them off against one another.
My last GS12 ADV 07 was heated grips and panniers free to clinch the deal from williams and rainbow. I had been to rainbow at shefield but only spoken to williams on the phone. let them know you are a genuin buyer and chance your arm, you have nothing to lose and hundreds to gain.

Good luck and show us some pics of what you get.

Thanks for the posts.

I was looking at an 06 Adventure on ebay which sold for £9500 and an 07 which sold for £9900, I've also looked on biketrader and seen 08's with 2k miles on for only £1k discount off list!! After looking for ages and either not finding the spec I want or colour or miles etc, and as I've worked my bollox off and never bought a new car or bike before, I'm leaning towards buying a new bike.

Burning £3k is not a nice thought but I think its more like £1 to £1.5k saving on a nearly new one so I'll enjoy the experience of having something new and the spec I want!! I’m not loaded but fook it!!

Thanks for the steer on Helmets and boots

Majorbumsore, thanks for the advice, first I’m going to my local BMW tomorrow and I’ll see what they can do, after that I will ring round to see if I can improve the deal like you’ve suggested.

I’ll post the pics when I’m sorted

Read this before, funny as you like - Rallye 2 suit. Do you feel a right twat? ( 1 2 3 4 5 ... Last Page)
Sorry, don't know how to copy the link?
Thanks

Sell him your GSA, Tom. :D Seriously, it's a good idea for you and Carlb. He gets a very decent bike and you remove one cause of your angst.

Carlb, this might, Oooh, suit you, sir:

FOR SALE

Price: £275 plus PP at cost - A discount of over 70% on a not dissimilar suit.

Condition: Good / very good. The suit has been used but has no rips or scuffs. It has not been down the road or through a hedge. All the zips and buttons work freely.

Style: As in the pictures. HG have a not dissimilar suit in their catalogue (Master V). If I had to guess, this is about a Master III variant). The current jacket retails for £500 and the trousers for £350.

Size: XXL As a guide I take a 58 jacket and 56 trousers in BuMW size. Six foot, 16 stone, 46" chest, 38" waist.

Separate winter lining?
Yes

Armour? Yes

Does it leak? It hasn't with me. I think it is one of the best suits HG turned out, way better than BuMW's state of the art.

Carlb .. do you want to buy an 08 GSA? :nenau

One careful owner :D

Alan Jeffries BMW in Shipley have in their showroom a 57 plate GSA in white for £9700 which isn't bad. I saw it when I was in last weekend. What about a low mileage demo machine? I got my GS there in January for around £2k less than list. 3 Months old, 1400 miles and fully loaded. In the current climate you can make a sensible offer and they'll usually consider it.

What about some Hein Gericke Gore-Tex gear? I've bought their stuff for years and you can't go wrong. If there's a problem with a Gore-Tex jaxcket or pants, (like a leak), they will exchange it without a problem up to 5 years after purchase! I currently have the Cruise GTX suit and ride every single day in all weathers and it has been faultless. Keeps you warm and dry all the time. In the summer you just take the lining out and since the Gore-Tex liner is on the outer jacket you're still waterproofed and if it's warm you have loads of zipped vents to allow cool air in where required.

As for a helmet I don't think there are any as good as Arai. I don't have the Ewan McBoorman lid but the RX7 Corsair. It is superb. Vents are brilliant, comfort is brilliant and build quality/service is brilliant. Wind noise is errrr... did I say the vents were brilliant?!
