Seen 'em on 'tinterweb, but parked in the lay-by, south bound (where the butty-van is) was a CF Recovery liveried Goldwing, with the car recovery folding trailer gubbins attached ..the fact that it was parked, suggests the regular motorbikey guys are not that keen to mix-it with the traffic...

Anyone else see it?

It was one of these:

...and they can do this...

Haven't seen it yet, but shouldn't be hard to miss if it's in their usual white / pink scheme. I'd rather be on the 'Wing if all they do is cruise the Swallwell - Angel stretch of the A1, it must get a bit dull after the first couple of minutes! Might as well be comfy and listen to some tunes.

hi guys, i work for the company who maintains the A1 on behalf of the highways agency. the bike is being introduced on a trial basis.the idea is if a car breaks down on the by pass and everything grinds to a halt the bike can get through the traffic to tow the car away quicker and ease congestion.it's the only one in the country apparently.

It's a great idea, I'll bet the first time it's used will show the benefits.

It should also be big enough to run up behind the folk who dawdle along there causing the usual gridlock, and speed them up a bit! :D

Bit embarassing if your EWS went tits up and that fronted as the recovery vehicle!

suppose it's cheaper to use the goldwing than build a third lane on the bypass....:augie

I think it's first customer was an Audi TT, this morning, on the northbound side, approaching the A69 junction....?

Saw the bike the other day towing via the dolly a fiesta (i think it was) off the western bypass really just looked a bit weired.

S'Funny but I saw it towing a Seat Yellow Thing UP the Bowes incline heading south....He got a HUGE wobble on pulling away too....don't fancy it myself !!!:eek
