newMOT rules for exhausts

I have got a after markat ehaust with a removable baffle, it is stamped with the E thing. With the baffle in it failed a MOT as the new ruling states "regardless of what is stamped on the exhaust if the tester deams it to be louder than the original equipment it is a fail !" This update has just been sent out as far as I know.
After taking the piss out of the frendly tester he then passed it, but was quite within his rights not to.

It`s only a straight fail if it`s stamped 'Not for road use' otherwise it`s up to the examiner.
I cant see how there`d be a problem if you ride in and out relatively easily as it doesnt need to be running for the test.

I think you`d get away with it as I the examiner probably wouldnt be bothered arguing whether the can`s noiser or not.imho.

Try a different MOT tester. The place I use passed my Termignoni piped ( no E stamp ,in fact no stamp of any kind) 750 Italian twin with a " sounds nice,doesn't it".
It was bloody loud and shook my kitchen windows when warming up on the drive.

Yup I accept your points Im aware of changing the Exhaust

On the point of not starting the bike a bike has to be able to run otherwise it can be refused a test and the bike has to run to test the exhaust.

The tester as I put passed the ehaust but was being frendly and pointed out the new rules,

The reason I bought the exhaust was so it could be quite on long trips and loud on short trips, and its loud and louder !

it just seems that all loop holes get closed !

Easy answer

The easy answer is to change your bike every 3 years, then you'll never need to mot it anyway..... new ruling... no problem!!

( I didn't say it was a practical answer, just an easy one )

I think you will find that you don't need an engine to pass an MOT. Certainly the case for cars. Just whip the engine out and it will pass any noisy exhaust and pesly emissions tests....
