Can anyone who's been to the NEC so far tell me what's the word on some of the recurring issues that seem to be rolling around this forum?
In no particular order these would be:
1. Are there any new colour options coming in the new year, or were any displayed?
(Ive already seen PL1's reply about the model year starting in September but just wondering).
2. When will the non-ABS roll-out begin?
3. Any definative news of a ADV. model?(There again Ive read the threads and the 'word' is for an average time of late '06)
If there were any other tasty morsels cast from the top table that I haven't covered in the above then i'm sure were all keen to hear.
I am asking because i'm not sure if im going to be able to make it this year.
Since this is my first substantive thread on this forum I may as well add two other comments , having watched this site for many months before joining and then trawling through the back catalogue so to speak.
Firstly, on the issue of 1150 and 1200 , i'll keep this short.
I did a fairly short back to back , the 1200 first followed by the 1150adv.
IMHO
1150 Pro's: Better instrument panel , more charisma , the GS 'concept' as I always thought and hoped it would be - I get it completely.
1150 Con's: Offensively heavy , seat not the best.
1200 Pro's: For me, more generous dimensions for knee bend and h/bar positioning - comfortable seat. Narrower for filtering. Perhaps smoother and more torque ,most noticable in top gear roll on. It's a step forward and more FUN.
1200 Con's: Instruments, why major dividers at 20,40,60,80mph etc.? We need 30 and 70 most in the UK don't we? The flattened plane of the control cluster seems a bad idea too. Im temped to say a bit plasticy or brittle feeling but you can't have it both ways (see above) and ide rather have to replace plastics than metal after a spill(£££)
My wishy washy conclusion: They are both great bikes and if I woke up tommorrow and found either outside with an envelope containing the Log Book in my name ide be chuffed, and perhaps most importantly , wouldn't give a second thought to it's reative merits or failings against the old school/ new school alternative while I rode it.
Secondly , on the issue of the forum itself.
I cannot speak for anyone else but I think that many currently silent members would contribute their thoughts , wisdom and insight if it wasn't for a number of aggresive and frankly childish contributors that want to highjack the discussion .
Ive often noted that a potentially interesting thread degenerates into either a slanging match, a number of bitter, sarcastic asides or both.
Im not looking for a PC, New Labour, touchy feely experience but I DO feel that it undermines what were all here for. I'm sure the usual suspects, and perhaps some less usual, will now pillory me for my comments but at least im trying.
Have a good and peaceful Sunday,
