Hi Folks

I'm looking to buy a 1200 GSA and have seen one that looks pretty clean and I'm really interested in...

Only thing is, it's in Northern Ireland on NI registration plates and I would be taking it to a loving new home in England.

I understand that the NI plates are completely valid throughout the UK, however, does anyone have any experience of whether Insurance Companies get at all snooty about bikes registered in NI?

Thanks in advance - Guy

They have no right to get snooty - it is the same country in law. I'd answer any questions with "it's a custom plate".

if it is on a ni plate it will be registered in ni with a ni log book, you will need to register it with swansea but can either keep the ni plate or get a uk age related plate

I've had 3 cars and 2 bikes from NI , kept the plates and re-registered them in Swansea. Insurance company never bated an eyelid.

Many thanks for your responses. Never having done this before is it a lenghty process? Will I be able to ride the bike prior to the Swansea registration being completed?

Do they have the same MOT test / certificate as we do? Or would I need to have it tested when I get it over here?

All log books now go through Swansea

N I Vehicle licensing is amalgamated into Swansea now

Just make sure that you get part 10 and that the seller posts off their component

Be warned that the tax if there is any on the vehicle is no longer transferable

Last one I swapped over I went to a local dvla office, filled in a registration form ,handed in the Coleraine log book, the details were transfered onto the Swansea site, paid for new tax and that was it.

Think it has changed in the last couple of years but it is still no big deal

Where is the ad maybe some of us this side of the water know the bike? As per previous posts absolutely no issue with NI plates on mainland and vice versa.
