Nice Goldwing

This wing is in the Charterhouse auction on Thursday. Could be a bargain the way auction prices have been recently.
But don't forget you need to allow a further 15% on top of the Hammer Price and then there's the starage charges if you can't pick it up pronto

"Please note the Buyer's Premium on this lot is 12.5% plus VAT

This lot must be collected by 12.30pm on 10th October. If the buyer has not collected by this time it will automatically be removed and placed into storage, incurring a removal charge of £60 + VAT. Combinations will be charged at £100 + VAT. Storage will then be charged at £10 + VAT per day or part thereof. If collecting from storage, please provide 24 hours notice"

It will be an interesting see what it goes for as I reckon it's a £6k bike but then again, you only need a couple of people who desperately want it and ..........

The Buyer's premium and conditions of the sale will probably work to deter a lot of buyers. Plus auction prices have been through the floor recently so it might struggle to make £6k. Though as you say, prices can go way up if two deep pocketed bidders get into a bidding war.
Early Goldwings don't make good classics if the carbs aren't set up properly and ridden regularly. I took the carbs from my last GL1000 to the States in my suitcase to get them rebuilt as I struggled to find anyone in the UK who really knew how to work on the carbs.

I was going to bid on two pre-unit Triumphs (53 T100 & 53 Speed Twin) that were in the catalogue for this sale tomorrow but they were removed at the end of last week.

Charterhouse had both of them estimated at £4 to £5k each

The owner sold them privately at £3900 & £4000

I saw this bike yesterday when picking up my ADV 350. I know nothing about Goldwings but this one is absolutely stunning.

OOOOOHHHHHHH ... that original red one looks gorgeous ! Not too sure about the latest 2025 edition though !!

The green Goldwing made £6500 plus 15% fees so £7475

Makes the Dobles bike look expensive
I think I would prefer to buy one with a bit of mileage on it. Low mileage classic bike are valued by virtue of their low mileage. You'd have to park it and look at it. A usable bike with any mileage would be preferable as you'd actually be inclined to enjoy it. Just having a bike to "look at" wouldn't do it for me.

A Goldwing rally is held here every September. This year there was a lovely old GL1000 parked amongst the newer bikes. I remembered how we all used to think that the GL1000 was HUGE, but in amongst all the 1800s it seemed such a 'normal' sized bike. At roughly 50 years old it still sounded dead dead smooth and oozed that fine Honda quality of that era. A lovely old thing.

The Dobles bike is a beauty. Try finding another with that mileage and provenance. How on earth do you value such a thing? A one off with a one off price tag.

I seem to remember that the sides of the 'tank' hinged down and that there was a kick start in one of the panels. How quaint -
It is.
Popped in to have a look.

It looks mint apart from a tiny paint chip on left side of tank.

It’s beautiful but I found this useful vid

I wonder what the mechanical condition is, especially if the carbs are set up correctly as apparently not an easy job and very few people know how to do them.
Also,as mentioned in the vid, the cam belts need watching .

I am tempted but still think the price is a tad salty and wonder if it would be a money pit ?

Yup

The fuel filler cap is at the back of the centr ‘tank’ recess and the fuel tank is under the seat which must help keep the c of g low.

I remember having a go on one in 1983 . It was £400 but I couldn’t quite stretch to that at the time as a medical student ! He let me have a go and it flew! Seemed so quick after my T500 . Must go and have a look when I get back from the USA

I’m gad I wasn’t with you Martin, I’d be in big trouble- domestically, financially and mechanically!

You'd end up scared to use it to get it dirty...😆 Having a trawl through Dobles stock certainly show some interesting prices and variations... They place plenty of value on their ST11s again the 13s an the NT11s seem good value for lightly used versions...

Can’t see why that would make a difference? They are clearly into their motorcycles and that’s enough for me.

The new owner probably has more than one machine to choose from, power to their elbow whatever the ‘eck they choose to do with their new purchase
