Nice to Geneva advice

Dave, If its any help I did the Grand route des Alp last year, which is basically the route you have selected and there is plenty of info on it on line, including a GPS download. I was by myself and did the route, without rushing, in 2 days, in company it would probably be 3. I didn`t pre-book accomodation, never do, I ended up staying in the French equivelent of a walking hostel which I chanced upon and the food was great, but cheap, unfortunately I dont have note of the location. As has been mentioned before, is the strong likelyhood of pass closures along the route, but the aim will to be flexible. john

I certainly agree with Wapping's posts on the passes... 150 - 220 miles a day is fine for me.... 250 + becomes a bore IMO. I don't hang around when on the mountain twisties but as Wapping said, lunch, photos, petrol, drink & toilet stops, especially when is a group can use up 2-3 hours of your riding time... and realistically an average speed of 35 - 50 mph is not unusual...

Disagree with the biker thing though.... I don't go out of my way looking for biker haunts but I like the odd nod of recognition or a left hand held out by our continental biking buddies...... I also like the way bikers usually stop to offer help to stranded strangers....

Which begs me to ask, why is it Harley and GS riders rarely nod?:nenau
