Hi Folks- just came across this nice wee very biker friendly campsite in Southern Scotland.
Nice people nice wee site - well set up for bike camping with gazebos and an indoor marquee area.
Only found as I am trying to keep away from the madness/ Whacky races that the North West Coast has become this last number of years.
South West Scotland is a bit of an undiscovered gem really 👍

Quite, I've tended to gravitate towards Galloway and the border this last few years. (y)

Sounds good Sy! Im planning a trip north soon but it'll be NE rather than the west coast madness. This looks good for Galloway dander though. (y)

Utterly pishing down hellish in Strathmore just now....staying at Strathmore Lodge, just north of Broch Dun Dornagail, on the way to Loch Hope.1000007476.jpg

A run out to here is well worth the effort if you are in that neck of the woods.

“No farting in the tent” :D

Having a social area in a campsite makes all the difference in bad weather, like Tim used to have in Strontian. Somewhere out the weather, be it rain, wind or heat to sit and have a brew or dram or whatever.
Obviously in a van you have the space but not so on a bike. You can set up a tarp but they have limits for a few of you.

That'll be good for the seatrout though!
You'd think so...I was up here a day late due to some utter dundee k u n t crashing into my car and driving off....now traced and charged...had to wait for hire car to be delivered, then had to come home midweek for funeral of dear friend, now back up and pishing down!
The other guys have fished wery well and very hard, wet flies, dapping etc, and not even risen or seen a seatrout in Loch Hope or Strathmore River!
Nice Lodge, lovely area, all owned by Anders Paulsen for rewilding...deer all shot.. haven't seen a single one....but no fish!1000007475.jpg1000007578.jpg

Two good, basic, campsites I know of; one has closed completely, the other no longer takes tents, due to selfish, inconsiderate arse-holes.

I used to use these places ^^^ for my Galloway forest trips a few years (fevk it’s been 10years). I think the outdoor activity centre one may have changed nature and style somewhat as it really wasn’t a glamping site back then. Balloch o Dee is quite a cool place though.

Yes Balloch O Dee is a fine place to camp - nice family that run it in a good way ,, it’s one of my Favourites 👍

(Just saw this thanks to AustinW pointing the way from another thread).

Now the weather is seems to be settling I can see me having a trip up to this next week.

One question to anyone who lives in that area. Are there any midge's around?
I'd be grateful for an update. Thanks.
