Nine days away in France. Calais, Cote d'Or, Provence, Millau, Gorges du Tarne etc.

3 course for 20 euros per head! I am not surprised that they give free beer. Around here we pay 12 euros for 5 courses including wine. Some parts of France must be loads more expensive than others.

We normaly get three course for 11 Euros, this place is a little special. Well worth the visit and true Provencale cuisine. 20 Euros is about £14 and a superb entree followed by top notch main event, cheese and dessert with coffee, wine included. It really hits the spot. Some places are a bit more up market than the Dordogne:thumb

Jude and I will be off on Friday 22nd of June to Bilbao then work our way back up.

Nice hotel in Piney (just make sure you get a room over the rear courtyard, NOT the main road )

Owner is a Paris Dakar rider, who regularly gets in Top 30 and rides a KTM Rallye....if you ask he'll let you have a look

He can cook too and is a wonderful chef:thumb2

That's exactly where we are staying.

Been before. I know exactly what you mean about the main road.

Looks like you had a good time :)

Anyone know if you can go up the track that's under the bridge that's shown in this pic?

A great time indeed. Nine days away, with little or no rain, whilst the UK was flooded.

Looking at the pictures of the bridge. The track must be on the north side of the bridge. The reason is that we crossed north to south, coming from Mende, and then stopped on the southside to take the pictures.

I suspect (but may well be wrong) that it is a closed access road running up from the valley to the new official 'Air' on the the motorway.

To get the shots we didn't stop in the official 'view point'. Instead we stopped , on the road into Millau, in the valley below the bridge. I then climed up a very steep field to take the pictures, simply to get a better level.

Garmin route file for the ride Mende - Millau - Mende via the bridge.

PS Dashed off in a rush. It's a circular route so the navigation device may well get a bit confused at the start!

Google earth shows it and it seems to be tarmac'd :) It was there before the bridge.

You may well be right. I know that thay have closed off some of the access roads, I guess to stop people trying to get onto the motorway and avaoid the toll.

Just as an aside, on our trip was one chap and his wife. He does base jumping and had jumped from the middle of the bridge, twice, much to the annoyance off the local fuzz! Apt, perhaps, that he is married to a nurse.

He told me that they got dropped off on the motorway, swung up over the edge and then 'ran down' the anti-suicide screens. His wife met tham at the bottom. Bonkers!
