OK here's the problem my son want to connect to the internet via a Nintendo WiFi adaptor attached to my pc all good so far but my firewall won't play ball. I know the firewall is stopping the connection as all is well if I switch it off. The firewall is ZoneAlarm version 7.0.302.000 and the message reads "The firewall has blocked internet access to Belkin.home (IP address of my wireless router) from your computer." It's worth mentioning that the Nintendo DS is connecting via its own WiFi adaptor rather than my wireless adaptor because I have WPA security and the Nintendo DS is only compatible with WEP.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Have you added the IP of the Wii to Zonealarm allowed devices??

I don't know what it would be.....a normal PC or device would usually be 192.168.2.x where x is the next number up from the two existing ones you have (1 for the router, 2 for the PC)

Zonealarm should show the IP number of the device that has tried to access the internet.....if it does, just write it down, open Zonealarm, go to the firewall tab, add the IP adress of the Wii into the 'trusted' zone, apply and exit.

Bill,

managed to get it to connect but each time it tries to connect to a website it comes up with another IP address which the firewall is stopping. I assume that these are the websire IP's and I don't think I should be adding loads of IP's to my trusted list or am I wrong?

Cheers

Erm........
Do you mean that Zonealarm is putting up the alert???

*thinking*

Can't be......the Wii isn't connecting through ther PC where Zonealarm resides, the Wii is (or should) be connecting to the internet through the wifi router....

Sorry, I don't know enough to help really......I've not looked into how it all works :(

What is the message, and what's generating it???? (Zonealarm, the router or what??)

You probably need to set up some form of port forwarding.

Sorry Pukmeister but than means nothing to me - can you explain or is it too complex for a simple end user like myself?

Dave

Port forwarding is when you tell your router that any TCP/UDP requests incoming on certain ports (each application has it's own port numbers, your web browser uses port 80 for example) direct to a designated ip address (in this case, your son's DS)

try www.portforward.com for more info.... that may help...It's not as complicated as it sounds, but plenty of reading would help no end!!

good luck

i thought it might be the hardware firewall of a router blocking the wii, but OP says that all is well if he turns zone alarm off.

so maybe port forwarding is not the answer???
