Nipples

My adventure wheels are looking a little sad, the mild steel nipples are getting a little tatty, sad git that i am i want to clean up both the hubs over the winter.
Yes i can hear the comments, Wimp, just ride it dont clean it.
With that out of the way i have two options, dont want to spend loads of dosh getting the wheels re-built with stainless nipples,as they are otherwise in good nick, so i thought i would clean it all up and paint them.
My other option is look out for some non spoked wheels.
What experience do other folks have, and what would be the cost to change over, and are there any other standard wheels that fit ?

I had a quick look a while ago and a stainless spoke set and good rim polish seemed quite reasonable.
