Just treated myself to a Nippon denso starter. Amazing! tiny little thing next to a Bosch and only half the weight (6kg instead of 12kg). They're Toyota truck starters so should last ok. Just a bit pricey

I've had one on my R100RT for years and it's still working very well.
blimey that is small , nice weight saving too , is it for your special ? £300 ish?
£271 with postage. Yes it's for my special. they pull 80 Amps instead of the 120 for a Bosch which means I can have a smaller battery saving some more weight.
Likewise. Mine's about 7 years old now with no trouble.
You kept that one quiet Melch. Any other hidden goodies we should know about?

It has a bespoke casting to mount the Toyota motor in Phil so you can't just go and steal one from the local Casino car park.

Not really much hidden Rob TBH. Taller fifth gear, circlip mod done recently whilst putting another output shaft bearing in after returning from Russia. I also put a new drive shaft with the grease nipples on from motorworks. I've tended to keep the engine in standard trim for the reliability and not wishing to throw huge sums of money at it for comparatively small gains. It's got an HPN pipe but that was really because the stock pipe was suffering with the old loose internals rattling away as they seem to eventually. I didn't want to buy another stock one for that reason and I also think they're butt ugly. I had a side stand made by Ernie at Overland Solutions some years ago and he also made a front rack as well. Painted a funny colour to upset the purists and put a Corbin solo seat on to sooth my sensitive bottom.
Sorry to ask but Why not a brand new Valeo @£75? Is yours the 8 tooth variant?

My engines a Moorespeed high comp motor so I wanted the extra umph from a decent starter. I also want to cut as much weight out of the bike as possible. I want the best components to complement the rest of the engine as well.

Nothing wrong with the quality of the cheap Valeo copies - better than OEM and Valeo parts fit to if you need to change the teeth.
I have had one on my High comp 1000cc G/S for 130,000 km and it still works like new, spins it into life instantly, with the small G/S battery.

Cheap as chips, light and pleanty powerful enough
