Anyone purchased any of the catless chrome headers from nipy norms and if i was to fit to a gs1200 08 with the standard can will i need to get the fueling checked i.e will it run rich or to lean or be ok as im leaving the original end can on and just dumping the cat??? all replys welcome :thumb2

The 1200's electrics are more than capable of managing this change if you are keeping the standard can without any input from you. Plug and play.

'08 onwards bike do appear to run leaner than the early bikes. It's likely that fitting a set of headers without a cat' will cause the engine to run leaner.

People will try to tell you that the injection system will "self correct". That's only true while the system is operating in closed-loop mode, ie at relatively small throttle openings and low revs and also only so long as the fuelling requirements are within the parameters of the fuel map in the ECU + trims. Since the fuelling is much more likely to augmentation at larger throttle openings and higher revs, that's not much help.

At the very least, I'd be inclined to have the bike run on a dyno to establish air/fuel ratios. It's likely to be too lean and require re-mapping by using a Power Commander or one of the several other devices which offer this facility.

Fitted remus headers and Akro to my 06 and 08 GSA's and now on my SE ,no problems from the start, they have all run well with no mods and seem to spin up faster and breathe easier. I have had none Dyno'd but certainly the SE runs very well with the cat out of the way. Leave the baffle in the Akro though as it seems to attract the attention of the Mobile Laser gun speed detector:augie:blast

Fiitting catless headers is no problem for the fuelling as the lamda sensors will sort it out. If you were to go further with an aftermarket can and K&N filtr then you might want to think about checking the fuelling on a dyno.

Incidentally, I have some stainless Keihans is stock:augie

And i would certainly purchase them if their was a deal to be done on the price

We are without doubt in hard times, so you would think Keihan would be be happy to reduce the asking price (within reason) to get their pipes out rather than other makes..

Same here.

Even a small-ish price reduction would attract more potential customers who would otherwise buy from somewhere else...

:D

Have you checked the prices of the rival headers compared to the cost of the Keihans? The Remus headers are a almost £40 more for starters.

OK, lets have a look here:

Keihan headers: £315.60
Remus headers: £399.00 (Nippy Price)
Akrapovic: £515.00 (Nippy Price)

Quite how much lower would you like the price to be:nenau

£359 for the Remus headers at Nippy Normans, but still a difference of £45 compared to the Keihans. Having had both the Keihans are better quality IMHO. The Akrapovic ones are £417.

You should have told him they were £360 (10% off Norman's best) but as a 'special deal' you would do them for £345.... :D

At that price i'll have two sets ... just in case the first ones break,,,

Now that you can see that they are a good deal, who not limit yourself to just one

If they go wrong, you can always come and moan on UKGSer how a tosser (as opposed to a Tosser) has let you down..... Threads like that always get a good hearing....

If unsure, you should start a poll :augie
