All I can say is that since running nitrogen in my car tyres the tyre pressure monitor has only gone off once in a year, before I had to top up at least once a week. I can also get 40000 miles out of rear tyres and 24000-30000 on the front. Getting 12000 miles out my 1200GSA tyres since running nitrogen too. So you can say what you like, saves me lots of money, doing 35000 miles a year in my car and 6000 on my bike.

Last year a certain major quick fitting tyre emporium stung me extra for putting N2 in new car tyres. Was not pleased. In space or aero applications, maybe even in F1, but for us men and women on the street the good old huff 'n puff air will do just fine inside the black doughnuts.

Ive filled my tyres with a mixture of Acetelene and Oxygen. This will not make any difference to handling or if I get a puncture at low speed, but a high speed puncture combined with hot tyres and friction caused by the escaping gas will weld-up the puncture hole, preventing a potential nasty crash.

Dont worry, Iam still on the Bavarian stuff, hope I dont get a puncture before I can afford £1500 for a nitrogen unit for my workshop

Thank goodness for that. I'd hate you to void your Warranty with just any old air.

What magic tool did he use to purge the tyre of air then? You have to pull a complete vacume before refilling with nitrogen, because a tyre has only one way in, and one way out for air/other stuff to get in there.

There would be a few fridge companies interested in that technology I bet

I always wondered the same myself Vern, in the fridge world we use a portable vacuum pump to pull a near absolute vacuum and boil off any moisture within the fridge circuit before adding refrigerant. I reckon if you used a vacuum pump on a bike tyre to remove air you'd just suck the bead off the rim.

Obviously if inflating with Nitrogen, there is already 1 Bar absolute pressure of air prior to adding the Nitrogen, so there will be a negligible amount of moisture still within the tyre.

I'm going to put slime in my Tyers and then fill with nitrogen how much moisture will I have at 42 psi as a% ? JJH
