I am really considering getting nitrous for my 1150 GS. It would be a real laugh I recon.
I know there is at least one guy (Laughing Gas?) who runs nitrous on his GS.
What are the pros and cons? Will it destroy my gearbox or final drive? Anyone any idea about a cost?
Anyone got any videos of a nitroused GS?

Cheers

But seriously can't really see the point of nitrous on such a lazy revving engine as the boxer twin, most likly outcome would be pre detonation and lunching the piston.

Its not just a case of adding nitrous, you have to increase fueling.

Now on a jap 4 its a different story, though i have trashed two pistons in my time !

I can recommend some guys who would be happy to take your money and blow up your engine. :D

Just trade in for GSXR1000 and have the same thrill without worrying about rebulding your engine :)

Nitrous kits also increse the fueling.
One of the advantages of nitrous over other tuning is that is doesn't move power up the rpm scale. why do you think it is unsuited to a 'lazy revving' engine :nenau. I would argue the opposite. Conventional tuning isn't suited to the slow revving nature of the boxer.
the biggest danger is that more power at low revs means more torque - nice for riding, but its torque that will kill gearboxes and final drives.

The only thing that Nitros does is provide a more concentrated source of oxygen for the burn process. Liquid NO sprayed in provides more "O" than gaseous O2. You then need to add more fuel to burn in that extra oxygen - either re-jet or adding extra fuel lines. Cheapest iinstallation adds NO and extra fuel together through the air induction route. Either into the hoses post throttle body or (for a car) the plenum chamber.

NO is VERY suited to large capacity slow reving engines (as well as Jap screamers). Power is added through the whole rev range.

Typical problems include:

Overheating (Burn more gas = needs more cooling)
Drivetrain strain (yours was built to handle Xbhp, you now have 1.75X bhp)

And the killer.....

Your insurance company will love you.

Good luck - and post a video when you have it running!

Fitting a powercommander gives full command (sic) of adding extra fuelling where required... ie: NOS operated via a microswitch at WOT (wide open throttle)? Add fuelling when throttle position = 100% & nothing when it's less...

I've also had the same site as Fanum bookmarked until I'd nothing better to spend money on. Even got hold of 4 CO2 fire extinguishers.... & I've already got the powercommander fitted.... :mmmm

I've been runing nitrous for a couple of years without any problems at all. As Jimbo says,Extra fuel is provided along with the NOS. I'm only running an extra 50bhp, but its enough to give jap sports bikes a run for their money up until you hit the rev limiter. If you want more top speed you'll need to change the gearing, as mine will only pull 134mph with the standard gearing (gets there quick though:D ). I'm planning on fitting an 1100s final drive when I get round to it.:thumb

pic below is of the injectors, red is extra fuel, blue is NOS
